The Ultimate Guide for Expatriates and Their

Managers

In this insightful guide, Stan Lomax shares his considerable experience and innovative ideas on best practices for expatriates and their managers. As a former human resources manager, consultant, and expatriate himself, he synthesizes the viewpoints of all three parties and provides unbiased and reliable advice for those on either side of this complicated issue.

He shows how expatriates and their corporate managers can work together to minimize common difficulties. He discusses what companies can do to more fully support their overseas programs and what expatriates themselves can do to match their personal and professional goals with their company’s long-term business strategy.

Best Practices for Managers and Expatriates describes each step of the international assignment process, discusses the global demand for expatriates, and profiles the characteristics of today’s assignees. Case studies of global corporations highlight the practices that work and those that don’t.

Potential expatriates and those already overseas will find advice based upon practical experience. Important issues that should be taken into consideration before accepting or rejecting an overseas assignment are discussed, and tips are provided on negotiating the best terms and conditions in such critical areas as compensation, benefits, housing, career planning, and repatriation. Potential expatriates will learn how to sign up for overseas postings, get the training needed for overseas success, and plan future assignments to further personal and professional interests.

Best Practices for Managers and Expatriates offers practical, down-to-earth advice on all the major issues of expatriation. Whether you are working overseas, applying for foreign positions, or managing expatriates yourself, this comprehensive and straightforward book will help make the expatriate experience simpler, more rewarding, and more profitable for all involved.
