It is quite difficult to find books or material in general that involve Russia that does not just go on and on about the U.S.S.R or stereotypes. The translation is good, the stories are great, it is sophisticated and respectful. It deserves your attention if you are even the least bit interested in culture, or just plain brilliant writing.

Moonstar loved being a cat. Especially a forest cat. She was leader of a clan, there were no Twolegs, and prey was poentiful. Until the monsters came... Moonstar was taking a walk when a bright green monster veered off of the Thunderpath and into the forest. Moonstar hissed and tried to get away but it was too late... she woke up on a slab of shiny Twoleg stuff. She looked around and saw Twolegs with white pelts and pale green masks on. She growled at them when they tried to poke her wit those sharp things that they had. She tried to claw them but something was missing. She looked at her paw and gasped. She tried to extend her claws but there was nothing there. She wondered why Twooegs were so evil to cats. They had hit her with their monster and then taken away her long and deadly claws. Insted she tore at the Twolegs with her fangs and she was satisfied when they yowoed in pain. While they were distracted, she leaped off the taboe but landed strangely. She turned aroun and saw that her tail was torn off. First her claws and now her tail! She couldnt take it anymore. With that she crept out of the open door and started on her long journey home.

Lightshade was walking through the forest when she heard a sharp yowl. She raced through the forest toward the yowl. She broke into a clearing. About 20 cats were there fighting to the death. She quickly hopped into battle. Each cat was fighting someone. It was every man for himself. Lightshade lept onto the nearest cats back. He hissed and tried to throw her off. She held on but another cat dug his claws into her flank and dragged her off. She lay on the ground shund for a second. But the cat was already on top of her. She clawed feebly at him but he had more precise blows. When all the cats retreated Lightshade was left on the ground a pool of blood around her. Her friend ran up to her and said, "are you ok Lightshade?" Lightshade looked up at her and said, "Moonshadow you were a good friend, and now it's time for me to leave you. I'll never forget you." Moonshadow started to cry as Lightshade gave way to the dizzying blackness. Silverleaf
