Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"Watson's descriptions are meticulously researched; he checked out every campsite in every campground, hiked every trail, and gives detail down to what birds, flowers and trees you’ll see, how much road noise you might hear and what type of restroom facilities you can expect. Campers hoping to reserve a site in advance can pinpoint exactly where they’d like to be, based on his thorough descriptions." &#8212MinnPost.com, July 2012

    Lilywolf

The light gray tabby shecat follows Goldenstar and sits at the bsse of the high log, looking out over the clan. She gives her mate a reassuring smile and then wraps her tail neatly around her paws to listen. Her ice blue eyes cloud at list of the deaths. Cinderpaw, Wolftooth, and Wavebreak had so much to give their clan but at least they died loyal. She decides the clan should sit vigil for them tonight. Then she smiles at the list if the cats who fought Redspirit. Lilywolf meets Cloudripple's gaze and nods to her, wishing to speak with her best friend later about the entire situation. But the fact that Cloudripple had remained loyal to her clan and not her mate sends ripples of admiration through the deputy. Wolfheart had chosen the same path and the white shecat reminds Lilywolf a lot of her mother. Whitefury is a different matter entirely and the deputy understands why Goldenstar excludes him. The tabby smiles gratefully at Goldenstar at his praise for defeating Phantom. Relief washes off of her in waves as he excludes the details of how she managed to kill the evil tom who gave Redspirit so much power. The thought makes her shudder and she turns back to listening to Goldenstar and cheers as the apprentices receive new mentors. The tabby cheers extra loud for Ripplepaw, knowing this is a big day for the little cat. She glances at Morningdew and gives her a nod. The shecat had proven herself in the battle against Redspirit and deserved an apprentice now. Lilywolf's eyes beam with pride at the mention of Larkfrost's kits and she gazes lovingly at her daughter from across the clearing. Though the arrival of the kits was not of her choosing, the shecat knows Larkfrost will make a wonderful mother. As Goldenstar dismisses the meeting with encouragement, Lilywolf meets him at the base of the high log. "That was great!" She purrs, gently touching his cheek with her muzzle. "You covered everything. See there was no reason to be worried." Brushing his pelt, the tabby follows him back to the clearing, happy for Goldenstar's success as well as the survival of Horseclan. ~ Lilywolf &hearts

    Goldenstar to Horseclan~ Clan Meeting

Goldenstar stands beneath the High Log looking at it silently, clearly looking nervous and unsure. He knows he has to hold a clan meeting, and he is sure that soon he will get used to it, but he feels he'll be unable to do half as good a job as Lilywolf or Velvetstar. Going over for possibly the thousandth time all the things Lilywolf had told him, the golden leader climbs the High Log, stumbling a few times due to unhealed wounds, but he makes his way to the edge of the High Log. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the High Log for a clan meeting," he calls across the clearing, waiting quietly for the clan to gather. "I am sorry it's taken so long to have a meeting, but I'm glad to see everyone is doing well and getting better. As most of you know, Redspirit is now dead thanks to Riverpaw, Morningdew, Rabbitwhisker, Cloudripple, and Spottedpine." Although Goldenstar knows Whitefury had also helped take Redspirit down, he also knows he'd been following Redspirit's orders and choosen not to mention his name until he can hear the entire story. "I...I wasn't around for most of what happened, but Lilywolf helped me out. She killed Redspirit's mentor and if it weren't for her Horseclan may not have made it out in one piece." Goldenstar gives the tabby shecat a grateful smile and respectful nod before he continues speaking. "You all proved just how strong Horseclan is, that your loyalty is to your clan before anything else, and that you will stand up for what is right even until death. Cinderpaw was killed by Toadpaw, one of Redspirit's followers, Wavebreak died of wounds from a rouge attack, and Wolftooth was killed by Redspirit himself. They died loyal to their clan and belong to Starclan now, but we will all greatly miss them, and never forget their courage and loyalty." Goldenstar is quiet for a moment before he continues, " Ripplekit, Duskpaw, Amberpaw, and Blizzardpaw, please come forward. Ripplekit, you are now old enough to begin your training to become a warrior. You will now be known as Ripplepaw and Pridefall will be your mentor. Pridefall, teach Ripplepaw to imitate your kindness and loyalty. Duskpaw, Amberpaw, and Blizzardpaw will each receive new mentors. Duskpaw, your mentor will now be Mistyrose. Amberpaw, your mentor will be Morningdew. Blizzardpaw, your mentor will be Deercloud!" Goldenstar pauses while the apprentices names cheered before he meows, "Although we will mourn the loss of Wolftooth, Cinderpaw, and Wavebreak, we also celebrate the birth of Larkfrost's kits. Icykit, Stormykit, and Hollykit are Horseclan's newest members and will surely be great warriors someday. You all should be proud of their loyalty, bravery, and strength, I owe you all my life. Now we can all move forward together, grow stronger, and defeat any challenge we may face in the future!" Bowing his head, Goldenstar dismisses the meeting and starts to make his way off the High Log. ~Goldenstar

Lilywolf to Horseclan - The High Log

    At the cent

Lilywolf to Horseclan - The High Log

At the center of camp, a cluster of boulders support the remains of a once proud maple tree. Time and the disappearance of the Forest have taken its tole and now the tree lies dead upon the pile. A cat perched a top this log can see not only the entire camp but also to the prairie beyond. It is the perfect spot for the leader of Horseclan to perform ceremonies and conduct meetings. These events are what drives clan life and determine its future. Whether it is the joyful announcement of a birth or the sorrowful news of a death, everything told here will somehow effect the lives of the cats of Horseclan. ~ The High Log, Lilywolf
