Mallory Petersen is the owner of a private detective agency as well as the owner of Petersen's Black Belt Academy, a successful Taekwondo martial arts school. Mallory is hired to find kidnapped Cindy McGee, a child soon to be forced into a dark world, a world of pornography, rape, and drugs. Her case starts off slowly but she has a quasi-breakthrough with a visit from a woman saying she has had a vision. She is not a physic but an F.P.S., A Focal Point Seer that sees things. At first Mallory dismisses the woman’s help but as things begin to unfold she finds that the flashes are coming true. As Mallory’s search intensifies, she finds herself more repulsed with every detail uncovered. The trail leads from Des Moines to the Quad Cities area, where Mallory partners with Detective Lawrence Cameron to continue her search of meat packing operations, one of the clues from the Seer. After an exhausting search they finally have a breakthrough, but will they be in time to find the little girl, before it is too late?
I have always been a fan of private detective fiction, of both men and women. However, after reading the description of this book and its subject matter I normally would have passed on reading it. I am glad I didn’t. This book is really well-written. Although it is on a sensitive subject, the author managed to cover it in a way that was not offensive. I really liked the characters and their interactions. The plot was well-laid out, the dialog good, and the end was surprising but satisfying. Overall, well done.
