Bethany Dillon

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Lisa Zhito
Newcomer Bethany Dillon arrives just as a revival in the female singer-songwriter scene appears to be underway. Joining such musical soul sisters as Sara Groves, Alathea, and Jill Paquette, Dillon eschews pop gloss in favor of intriguing melodies, acoustic arrangements, and lyrics that betray insight and vulnerability. Dillon has a beautifully modulated voice that can alternate between sweetly folksy (as on the opening track, "Revolutionaries") or edgy (as on "Great Big Mystery" and "Why"). Indeed, it is on these rockers that Dillon distinguishes herself from her contemporaries, displaying both vocal power and a lyric intensity more closely aligned with the Jennifer Knapp...

Indeed, it is on these rockers that Dillon distinguishes herself from her contemporaries, displaying both vocal power and a lyric intensity more closely aligned with the Jennifer Knapp school of female CCM. Dillon tries her hand at one cover tune, and it's a doozy-"Lead Me On," Amy Grant's blockbuster hit from the '80s. It's gutsy for a newcomer to cover a song so familiar to audiences, but Dillon does a remarkable job, and producers Ed Cash and Josh Moore have updated the song nicely by throwing acoustic flourishes into the mix. Dillon's debut is bright indeed, and offers much for fans of the singer-songwriter genre.
All Music Guide - Steven Douglas Losey
In the case of many 15-year-old performers, the pre-recorded tracks and dance moves serve as the backdrop to launch a career that's often void of authenticity. With that said, Bethany Dillon is absolutely the real deal. As a writer or co-writer on ten of her discs eleven tracks Dillon proves that an acoustic guitar and divine inspiration are food for the soul. Citing Jennifer Knapp as her main influence it's easy to see why as many of her cuts retain the same depth as Knapp's compositions. Songs like "Revolutionaries" and "For My Love" have an emotional intensity that is rarely featured in the psyche of most 15-year-olds. Cuts like "Great Big Mystery" are bolstered with effective electric riffs while Dillon's vocals push the songs' chorus into overdrive. Lyrically the depth of the disc is unsurpassed. Dillon's offerings on tracks like "Beautiful" and "A Voice Calling Out" are two of many lyrical gems. What's so appealing about this release is the bevy of musical textures. On some cuts the mandolin and banjo are utilized, while on others strings and bagpipes layer the voicings. Bethany Dillon's debut opus is an incredibly rich example of unadulterated passion for her Creator, a passion that permeates every single cut.

    Amazing talent

Her voice is beautiful, she writes great lyrics, and she is 15. Few artists are quite as impressive. The album has a good variety of songs. You can preview the whole album at bethanydillon.com.

One of the best folk/rock albums out there...

With a soft, powerful voice well beyond her years, Bethany's debut album is by far one of the best I've heard in a long time. Quite remarkable for a 15 year old. Get this album! You wont be disappointed!

    Amy Grant is a Friend

I went to the Bebo Norman/Amy Grant/Mercy Me concert in Dayton, Ohio the first part of March. Bethany is from near Dayton so when Amy Grant was up on stage she introduced Bethany and had her come up on stage to sing one of her songs. She sand "Beautiful" and it was wonderful. I got chills and it brought tears to my eyes. She got a standing ovation. I am buying this CD just from hearing her sing that one song. I also strongly recommend this CD to anyone who has a teenage daughter since Bethany is a teenager herself she seemed to really be able to relate. If that one song is any hint as to what the CD holds it will be worth my money and yours. She is turely gifted.
