Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 6-9Jennie McGrady has been called to help out on the Dancing Waters Ranch after her uncle is injured in an explosion that claimed the life of one of the ranch hands. The young woman's intrinsic detective instincts take over even before she reaches the Bitterroot Mountains of Montana. The bomber's motive could be prejudice against her Uncle Jeff, a Native American, or knowledge of the gold mine on the family's 20,000 acres. Though the book takes off slowly, it soon becomes a page turner. A touch of Indian culture with slight religious undertones of both Christianity and the Great Spirit set a pleasing tone.Bambi L. Dunn, Mustang High School, Oklahoma City, OK
Shelley Townsend
The seventh book in Jennie McGrady's mystery series finds the plucky heroine trying to find out why someone has tried to kill her uncle, who owns a dude ranch in Montana. She has a long list of suspects, including Chad Elliot, who asserts his family was swindled out of the land her uncle claims; Elliot's unscrupulous lawyer; and the infamous Montana Militia. Fans of the series may find the mystery plodding and the characters stereotypic, but they'll like the fact that Jennie's epiphanic moments are not overly contrived and appreciate the suspense that's added when a secret gold mine is found to exist on the property.

    I was disappointed

This book was not one of Patricia H. Rushford best books. It is not as exciting as other jennie books I have read.
