Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
The whimsical adventures of two best friends, Betsy and Billy, come alive in this re-issued chapter book. The book starts as the two are about to start second grade. Betsy feels sad and worried, as she does not expect to have her beloved first grade teacher. As luck turns out, Miss Grey gets promoted to second grade along with Betsy and Billy! The rest of the book chronicles the year's events from losing baby teeth, putting on school parties, and expecting a new baby in the house. Children will enjoy the lighthearted stories with characters that reflect the feelings of children their own age. Because the book first appeared 1941, some of the stories use outdated words. Parents may have to help little ones understand all of the concepts of how life was like before television, video games, and cell phones. The tales make for great read aloud bedtime stories. Black and white illustrations highlight the text. The book is the second in a series of "Betsy" books. 2004 (orig. 1941), Harcourt, Ages 6 to 10.
