Thomas knocks it out of the park again with her seventh contemporary set in Harmony, Tex. (after Can’t Stop Believing). Ronny Logan and Austin Hawk are looking for peace out by Rainbow Lane. They both have reasons to crave solitude—he’s recovering from injury, she from grief and a year’s travel—so they’re surprised to enjoy each other’s company. Ronny also becomes friends with neighbors Dusti and Abby Delaney, sisters who are counting on a poker tournament to make their dreams come true. As Dusti gets poker lessons from flirtatious Kieran O’Toole, tournament organizer Reagan Truman waits for rodeo rider Noah McAllen, her longtime love interest, to “grow up and man up.” Thomas is a master at creating damaged yet appealing characters, and their expressions of love—as siblings, as friends, as partners—are intense and beautiful. Their paths to happiness are interwoven in an intricate tapestry with the tournament as backdrop, combining in an epic tale of the kind of love that lasts forever. (Apr.)

When widow Ronny Logan comes back to Rainbow Road, the once-shy loner will be wrapped into the lives of her neighbors, including an injured serviceman and two sisters who are hoping to finally change their lives. After her husband died, Ronny traveled the world to get over him; then, unsure of what to do next, she came home to Harmony, Texas, and settled in an isolated cabin. She likes the fact that she has only three neighbors—the Delaney sisters across the lake and Austin Hawk, who's healing from a tragic accident suffered during his Army service. Like Ronny, Austin is a loner, and the two share an immediate, powerful attraction which neither can explain; it grows when Ronny and the Delaneys, along with Austin's childhood friend Kieran, help Austin after he's injured again in a freak accident. Kieran is in town for a poker tournament, and Dusti Delaney asks him to help her enter, seeing it as an opportunity to win enough money to get her and her sister out of the financial hardship they fell into when their parents died. Kieran, secretly nursing a long-standing crush on Dusti, agrees to help, though the possibility of competing against each other causes some tension. Meanwhile, in the midst of hosting the tournament, Reagan Truman realizes that her lifelong love, rodeo star Noah McAllen, has begun to take her for granted, and a surprise on her doorstep makes her question whether their rock-solid relationship isn't built on sand. Popular romance author Thomas returns to Harmony with another book that moves forward apace, visiting with favorite characters and introducing new ones fans will appreciate. Readers will root for their happily-ever-after and will be satisfied in the end, but getting there involves a lot of telling rather than showing and some character and relationship jumps that involve broad strokes rather than detail work. Gratifying emotional moments and resolutions mostly overcome some flawed storytelling.

Jodi Thomas takes readers back to her beloved town of Harmony, Texas in her latest book in the Harmony series, Betting the Rainbow. Thomas doesn't give readers just one couple or romance to focus on, but three in this offering. This book ties up a lot of loose ends in the series, while continuing to draw in new readers with it's small town charm and warm writing style. Thomas has a way with realistic characters in realistic situations and readers of contemporary romance can't get enough. Another great book by this well respected voice in the genre. What I liked: Jodi Thomas' Harmony series is all about love in a small town. Thomas draws readers in with an idyllic Texas setting and a cast of characters that will pull at the heart strings. Throughout the series her characters have been through a lot and though Betting the Rainbow can be read as a stand alone, it goes a long way toward wrapping up some story lines that are near and dear to the hearts of her fans. The thing that continues to draw most readers to this series is the heart felt writing style of Thomas. She knows how to wring the emotion out of her readers and what they need to read get that warm fuzzy feeling that some contemporary romances have. I just love this series. There are essentially three different story lines combining in this book. Fans who followed the series faithfully will love the update on Reagan and Noah, one of the series most beloved couples. Noah may be coming home, but a lot of things have changed including Reagan. I loved this part of the book and looked forward to where Thomas would take these characters. I thought I knew the direction, but a mid-book curve ball really threw me.  Dusti wants nothing more than follow her dreams with her sister Abby at her side. She thinks she knows how to do it when a high stakes poker tournament comes to town. With a help of Scotsman she could have it in the bag. But she soon begins to see that what she wants most might be right there in Harmony after all. This was a great storyline. A girl who just wants to get out of town, finally realizes she has all she wants right here. I know about that from experience, so this part of the book really hit home with me. Ronny has been traveling for a year after the death of her love, Marty. Now she is returning to Harmony, but she isn't ready to face the world. Living quietly on the outskirts of life she finds someone she never expected to find. Someone just as damaged and hurt as she is and in helping him, she never imagines that she will be ultimately helping herself. I really enjoyed all of the healing that went on with these two characters. Austin was a dream and I thought they were perfect for each other. What I didn't like: I liked it all. Thomas seems to fill her books with love and you can't argue about that. Bottom Line: This really was one of my favorites of the series so far. It had some much genuine emotion. I felt happy and sad and joyful and full of angst and so many other things as I read it. Thomas never disappoints. She is truly a very gifted author and her books have been a great joy and comfort to numerous readers along the way. Can't wait for the next one.

I get excited everytime a new Harmony Texas book comes out. Since the first book, "Welcome to Harmony", I have wished they were all real. Its like coming home and wrapping yourself in the afghan your Grandma made and gossip with your friends. This book brought back a character I felt a kindred spirit with the first time she was introduced in the series, Ronny Logan. Without giving away any major plots, this story is about how Ronny, Austin Hawk, Dusti Delaney, and Kieran O'Toole put everything they had into middle of the table. If you are debating about reading this book, STOP!!!! Bet the rainbow and do it. You will not be sorry.

This another top pick for Mrs.  Thomas!  I love all of the Harmony Series and I'm like another reviewer, wouldn't it be nice if there was a real Harmony we could visit?  I hope there's another in the series soon.

One of the best Harmony books to date! Two sisters have spent their lives and and poured all their money in trying to keep their home on Rainbow Lane going. But a dream pushes each. For Dusti Delaney it's getting enough money together to send her sister Abby back to nursing school. She sees only one way that's going to happen--winning a poker tournament that Reagan is going to hold out on her place. The whopping prize will be more than enough. But first, she needs someone to teach her how to play Texas Hold'em. Boy does she the find the right guy! Sexy Kieran O'Toole. He's hot, hot! But one of the best parts of this book is Ronny Logan's story. After a year away following the death of the man who held her heart, she's finally home. She rents a house out on Rainbow Lane until she can get her bearings. There she meets Austin Hawk, a soldier who's trying his best to cope with guilt and the feeling he shouldn't be alive. Then, Reagan discovers a secret Noah's been hiding and fights the feeling of betrayal. This is the perfect romance with a perfect ending for everyone. Classic Jodi Thomas at her best. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. So go sit out in the shade of the porch and pack your bags for a stay in Harmony! You may not want to come back.

“Betting the Rainbow” by Jodi Thomas is a wonderful mix of the Harmony characters we’ve grown to love and a few that we hadn’t met before. Ronny Logan has just returned from traveling abroad and is renting a “secluded” cabin on Rainbow Lane. She quickly learns that the rental is not as secluded as it first appeared when she meets her neighbor the seemingly unfriendly, Austin Hawk. Ronny and Austin are both looking for some solitude and although neither of them are good at communicating with others they find themselves drawn to each other. Will they be able to open themselves up enough to take comfort in each other? Reagan Truman is busier than ever running the Truman Farm and preparing for a poker tournament that will be held on her Farm. The winner of the tournament will receive a trip to Las Vegas, NV for a poker tournament with big pay outs, all remaining proceeds go to the local library. But what Reagan wants more than anything is to have Noah McAllen back in Harmony with her. Will Noah McAllen ever decide to quit the rodeo circuit and come back home? Dusti and Abby Delaney are sisters that have lived most of their lives on Rainbow Lane. Keeping the family farm running occupies almost all of their time and money making it impossible for them to pursue their dreams. When Dusti hears about the poker tournament she knows that if she can win and place in the money in Las Vegas she will have enough money to send her sister back to school. The only problem is that Dusti doesn’t even know how to play poker! If anyone in Harmony can teach her how to play poker and win its handsome Kieran O’Toole who happens to be in town for the tournament. Dusti enlists Kieran’s help and in return promises to go on a date with him. Will they outcome of the tournament affect the attraction they feel for each other? “Betting the Rainbow” is a beautifully written page turner. Jodi Thomas does an amazing job of creating multifaceted characters; she doesn’t diminish their flaws, strengths, triumphs, or struggles. “Betting the Rainbow” is no exception the characters are regular everyday people and they are easy to relate to. I have been reading Thomas’ books for many years and have never been disappointed with any of them. I love immersing myself in her books and can’t wait for the next one!

Jody's books are a never-ending source of delight, and Harmony is a place I'd love to live. I highly identify emotionally with Ronny as I nearly lost my husband to cancer. Well done, Ms. Thomas.

This is the 7th book in the Harmony series featuring the return of a grieving Ronnie Logan along with most of the other residents in Harmony. Story centers around Ronnie and newcomer Austin, as well as her neighbors across the lake. Enjoyed this story--as I have the first 6 novels in the series.

Title: Betting the Rainbow Author: Jodi Thomas Publisher: Berkley Age Recommended: Adult Reviewed By: Arlena Dean Series: Harmony #7 Rating:5 Review: "Betting the Rainbow" by Jodi Thomas was the seventh in this author series...Harmony was of three couples who will hopefully find their way to the happily ever afters. You many want to read the other series before this one, however this read can be read as a stand alone. The author does a good job with the characters of Harmony, Texas and her novels bringing out the romance along with the humor. Truly, Ronny Logan, Reagan Truman and the Delaney sister, Dusti and Abby will bring out the 'focus of the interweaving stories of healing, forgiveness, and taking some big chances that have been delayed in fulfilling their dreams.' "Betting the Rainbow" was one good well written read that was a page turner that this author has created characters that will have some of it all...'flaws, strengths, triumphs and struggles.' Be ready for a beautiful rainbow of colors to this Harmony town that will give the reader humor, romance and second chances.
