Betty Crocker has worked in collaboration with a noted Indian culinary expert to develop recipes for Indian cooking that will be foolproof for the American kitchen. The majority of recipes in this book use ingredients that are familiar to all Americans like spinach, potatoes, lentils, shrimp and rice - but with an Indian twist that spices up the table. Besides great recipes, this book gives a wide-ranging look at the culture and people of India through fascinating photos and information about traditions and lifestyle. Included are recipes that will be familiar to anyone who has dined at an Indian restaurant in America, mainly from northern India. In addition, there are more specialized regional recipes for dishes from south, east and west India.

There are more than 180 foolproof recipes and over 70 gorgeous four-color photos in the book.

A very nice addition to my collection

This is an excellent Indian cookbook for introducing wonderful flavors to your friends and family. Lots of easy to prepare dishes with beautiful pictures of how your dish will look when done! I assembled a nice gift basket with this cookbook and an assortment of basic Indian ingredients/ spices. I even gave a copy to an Indian friend - who loves this cookbook!

    more from this reviewer

    This is for any cook!

I was very impressed with this book. The recipes are easy to read and understand even for people that are not familiar with Indian cooking. Spice blends are explained and products are not hard to find. Just looking at the pictures makes me hungry. I think this is the only Indian cookbook that I could find with a recipe for Gulab Jaman (sp?) One of my favorite Indian desserts.

    Truely Authentic!

I have been through several different Indian cookbooks, trying to find one where the end product tasted like the delicious Indian food I know and love. This is the best one by far! I was lucky enough to have an Indian housekeeper/cook for 2 years while living abroad. I can honestly say that the recipes that I have made from this cookbook taste just like her amazing home-made food! Betty Crocker, I beg you to write a Thai cookbook of equal quality and I will be able to die a happy cook :'

    Resturant dining at home!!!!

I absolutely love Indian Foods. So I wanted to create them at home. I went to my favorite resturant, got a menu and then decided to go to the bookstore and see which book had the most of what it was I loved so much. My decision was narrowed down very quickly.I purchased this book and found the recipes to be very easy, straight forward and truly authentic to my favorites from my favorite resturant. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to explore the flavors of INDIAN cooking. I keep this book on my daily use shelf,I own over 200 cookbooks and rotate them frequently on the daily use shelf. But this one stays. EXCELLANT!!!!!
