As Long As It Takes
The process of celebrating our friendships is one that carries us away in new directions. Some of our crafts and hobbies are the same way. Like dear friends, they grow with time to fill special needs in our creative lives, fostering self-discovery and fulfillment. Getting together in a group, in a pair, or simply working alone with a dear friend in mind, women can stretch the boundaries of traditional craft with fresh, original interpretations.
We delight in the making of beautiful, artistic things because it lets us share who we are -- our quirkiness, talent, joy, and affection. These projects that require so much time should especially reflect your particular talents and ideas. Use the patterns as inspiration for uniquely expressive versions. Try adapting a project to your own vision with your choices in materials or modified designs.
Many of the projects in this chapter are, indeed, labors of love. They take more time, more imagination, more hands, more soul. That is the best part, I think. Made as a gift, the finished piece amounts to far more than the combination of simple materials, design, and workmanship. In such a grand, personal effort, the message is unmistakable "I cherish you, dear friend, so very much."
