I had the pleasure of reading Dr. Tamara Sonn's book on the challenge of political legitimacy in the Arab World. I enjoyed the reading of the book because it sheds a light on an extremely important topic, which is the rise of the Islamic-religiously oriented political movements in Arab socities and their successes and failuers in challenging for political rule in Arab countries. The book is very informative and should and could be used for graduate students of political Islam in the Arab World in all of the colleges and universities that deal with these issues. I seriously recommend this for graduate studetns and others who are concerned about past century's rise of political Islam. In addition to her analysis of the Islamic movements past century rise, she devotes a good amount of space in the book explaining the historical roots of the theories and figures that influenced the leaders of the new Islamic movements in the last century............who by the way many of them are still politically active in their respective societies, Islamic movements such as, Islamic Brotherhood in Egypt, etc, etc. I think Dr. Sonn's work is important. I look forward to reading her other work on political Islam.
