Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Patricia Williamson
This novel is a great infusion of fantasy, Hawaiian folklore and the importance of family ties. Moana lives in California and has a very successful career, until something happens that draws her back to Hawaii, her roots, and her home. In going home, Moana must face the responsibilities and ties of her family while finding her way in the modern world. The conflict for her is difficult and life altering. The story is told through her dreams and remembrances as flashbacks to her present situation. As the dreams and memories occur, Moana is able to put her life into perspective and the reader is given a glimpse into Moana's future and the important decisions she will have to make for herself. Moana must protect the Ki'i, which is invaluable to her family and her heritage while following the dreams she has that reveal her identity. A riveting tale that is best taken in aloud, this story will appeal to anyone who is interested in Hawaiian culture and legend. Reviewer: Patricia Williamson
