Overview

Six Regency heroes—One royal hangover

An infamous night has been lost to memory. The scandalous Dukes of the Royal Entourage must make amends. The first step is a heroic rescue.

One of England's most disreputable peers, Alexander Barclay, Duke of Kress, has stumbled upon a perfect opportunity for redemption. Having been exiled to Cornwall by the Prince Regent himself, Barclay discovers lovely Roxanne Vanderhaven clinging to the edge of a cliff, stranded there by her murderous blackguard of a husband . . . just waiting to be rescued.

Back on solid ground, Roxanne is desperate for a new life— once she's retaliated for her husband's despicable actions. Surprisingly, she finds herself drawn to her unlikely champion, certainly the last man in England she could count on. Yet, the infamous Duke of Kress isn't quite the scoundrel he seems . . .

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In the first of Nash's Royal Entourage novels, Alexander Barclay, the Duke of Kress, must atone for outrageous behavior at a bachelor party (at which he blacked out) by abiding by the wishes of the Prince Regent. Alex must return to his estate at St. Michael's Mount in Cornwall and choose a wife within a month's time, but he is derailed on his journey when he rescues a young woman hanging onto the side of a cliff. Roxanne Vanderhaven, Countess of Paxton and damsel in distress, relies on Alex's charity as she leaves behind her former life and husband, since he abandoned her on the escarpment's face. As a parade of eligible young misses arrives at the Mount, Roxanne's jealousy flairs up. As she tries to thwart Alex's matrimonial plans and elude her husband, Roxanne's antics add humor to this enchanting Regency romance. As Alex's thoughtful deeds reveal his genuine ardor for Roxanne, he is transformed from the ne'er do well bachelor into a man worthy of the love and trust of Roxanne. Readers will look forward to what Nash (Secrets of a Scandalous Bride) has in store for the other dukes in this engaging series. (Mar.)

    Funny, great characters and story

The Duke of Kress's life is complicated. No sooner does he gain his title and party with his peers, but their debauchery is so awful London is appalled and Prinny disgraced and so is Alexander. He's banished to the country to repair his estate and marry without delay, along with his other dukes-in-crime. He rescues Roxanne, a neighboring countess whose husband has just left her dangling from a cliff. He invites her to stay at his castle posing as a relative until she decides what to do, since there will be plenty of others (dukes and heiresses) also in attendance. I enjoyed their banter and the family and heiresses a lot, especially when Roxanne fixed her gravestone and Alexander took revenge on her husband's garden and sanity. Definitely a fun and original story.

BETWEEN THE DUKE AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA by Sophia Nash is an exci

BETWEEN THE DUKE AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA by Sophia Nash is an exciting Regency historical romance. “Book I – The Royal Entourage series: Six Regency heroes — One royal hangover!” A fun story of secrets, attempted murder, romance,a bit of mystery, and love. Love and honor prevail when a half English half French,Alexander Barclay, Duke of Kress saves a wealthy miner’s daughter, Roxanne Vanderhaven, after her husband leaves her to die on the side of a cliff. Lots of laughs as these two characters navigate through their emotions, passion, desire, and dreams to come out on top as winner’s of love and happiness. This author as written with a bit of laughter,a bit of romance, and lots of love. If you enjoy a good story with strong characters,a twist of fate than you will enjoy “Between The Duke and The Deep Blue Sea”. This story will have a smile on your face. Received for an honest review from the publisher and Net Galley. Details can be found at the author’s website,Avon,an imprint of Harper Collins Publishers and My Book Addiction and More.

“…the regular obscene excesses of the Prince Regent

“…the regular obscene excesses of the Prince Regent and his royal entourage” cause a scandal that ends up requiring all the dukes of the royal entourage to “redeem” themselves and their reputations. This they are mandated to do by embracing temperance, by making reasonably quick, proper marriages, and by banishment to the far-flung corners of the English countryside. When Alex, Duke of Kress, is exiled to Cornwall, he finds Roxanne clinging to a cliff where she was abandoned by her husband, the Earl of Paxton. In the following days, Roxanne dreams up plans of revenge and ways to find the treasure that her deceased father left her, not trusting her husband to keep her safe. Alex and Roxanne entertain and try to out-maneuver other dukes, a bevy of possible brides for Alex, and their pushy mothers.
I wish I was as witty as Sophia Nash. The dialogue between the disgraced dukes, between Alex and Roxanne, and others really entertained me. I smiled most of the time I was reading. Maybe I should expect more attention to historical detail? But - this is a fun, romantic work of fiction. Roxanne reflects on being “glad females had so much quicker brains than men”. Alex wonders why “females are so entranced by the notion of a tortured man”. At one point, a friend of Roxanne’s is described as having “character – that dreadful term that bespoke of little beauty, but high intelligence”. It’s a fun read!

Alexander Barclay has been Duke of Kress for a short while befor

Alexander Barclay has been Duke of Kress for a short while before he ends up in trouble when he takes part in an orgy of drunken behavior with other lords and the Prince Regent. The Prince demands that he return to his ancestral home to start repairs and to choose a suitable bride. On his way home Kress comes across Roxanne Vanderhaven hanging on a cliff where her husband left her to die. Kress agrees to allow Roxanne stay with him as she makes plans for a husband free future. Over time their attraction grows to love, although between her marriage and the Prince’s decree they cannot be together. Despite the improbability of the situation the characters are likable and it is wonderful to see them get together in the end.
