Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Film producer, director and actor Balaban launches the McGrowl series with this faltering farce introducing fifth-grader Thomas and his "best and only friend," Violet. Just after his birthday, on which Thomas once again fails to receive the one present he wants a dog he and Violet find a stray as they walk home during a thunder and lightning storm. The dog escorts the children through blinding rain ("barking furiously, keeping them together and trying to move them forward as if they were an errant flock of sheep"), and pushes them out of the path of an oncoming truck, which then strikes the canine. In an odd twist, Thomas and Violet deliver the pooch to a man whom they believe is a revered veterinarian, but is actually a villain in disguise; after many pages readers learn that he is determined to take over the town and plans to use Thomas's dog to carry out his plot. The evil vet replaces the insides of McGrowl (as Thomas eventually names him) with steel and aluminum during an operation he performs after the accident. Awkward writing, extraneous detail and humor that misses its mark sink this shaggy dog story. Ages 8-11. (Aug.) Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.

Although not the longest, McGrowl is one of my favorite book series. McGrowl is a fun bionic canine hero with the ability to communicate telepathically with the boy who will become his new owner. McGrowl was seperated from his first owner and didn't come by his abilities naturally, but he uses them well.

    Dog Gone Wild

The book Beware of Dog is about a dog named McGrowl who get super powers and fights crime.
There are these two people who kidnap McGrowl and try to use his powers for evil.
But just like any super hero dog or human he saves the day and everything works out.
One of the parts I enjoyed was when McGrowl was chained to the house and he sees a cat and chases the cat with a wall from the house behind him.
McGrowl Beware of Dog is a great book for anyone. It's full of adventure and lots of fun. This dog has literally gone wild.

    Unpredictable

Its about a boy who desperatly wants a dog and he finds one becase he was outside in his backyard and the dog came up to him. Then Thomas and Violet named him McGrowl because he has to go to the vet at Mr.Minderbinder's office and he tries to take him away so he can make him a super dog. Then, Minderbinder makes all the dogs dig for him, thats the chance for McGrowl to get away and he does and he gets back to thomas and Violet safe and sound.
