About the Author

Robert “Bobby” Murtaugh graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 1979 with a B.A. in Communications. What began as a summer job soon turned into a long-term career at Green Gables Country Club in Lakewood, Colorado. After twelve years in the industry, he rose through the ranks to become the Golf Course Superintendent at Perry Park Country Club in Larkspur, Colorado, where he earned the prestigious CGCS designation as a Certified Golf Course Superintendent.
Bobby and his wife, Linda, raised their three sons in the quiet, rural town of Larkspur. As his boys grew older and became interested in baseball, Bobby found himself returning to the game he loved. Coaching their teams sparked a deeper involvement, eventually leading him to umpire Little League games. This passion led him to attend the Wendelstedt Umpire Development Program, where he graduated in 2000.
That training marked the beginning of a 25-year journey officiating amateur baseball across Denver, Phoenix, and Las Vegas. Throughout his umpiring career, Bobby kept journals of his experiences—the highs and lows, the challenges and triumphs. These writings formed the foundation of this book.
With this work, Bobby hopes to touch the lives of readers through his stories and provide newcomers with insight into the game’s unique rhythm and complexity.
