Beyond Good and Evil

Overview

Beyond Good and Evil is one of Nietzsche's most important works and, although it is relatively easy to read, it is one of the more difficult to fully grasp on a first reading. The thesis is, as the title alludes, that morality is ultimately relativistic - that right and wrong are not absolutes but are considerably flexible - and variable in different societies at all times.

Although he qualifies his views as opinions rather than facts and asks his readers to examine his premises critically before agreeing with his views, Nietzsche leaves no doubt that he is confident that all previous philosophers were wrong about important precepts and he alone is right. His criticism of his immediate predecessors is somewhat more restrained than in some of his other works and directs his harshest criticism at Plato for his fabrications of "Pure Spirit and Transcendental Goodness."

Nietzsche was fervently opposed the prevailing religious concepts of morality. His reputation as being anti-Christian was, and still is, sufficient grounds to inspire considerable criticism of his philosophy. As much as his critics might disagree with Nietzsche's philosophy, they cannot simply dismiss it. Nietzsche intelligence and persuasiveness make him a formidable figure in field of moral philosophy. His influence on modern philosophical theory is considerable and it is likely that his contributions will continue to inspire controversy for some time to come.

    Amazing

I've read this book multiple times! I absolutely enjoy every minute of it. Some very memorable quotes lie with in the pages of Nietzsche and I've highlighted my favorites!

    BEWARE Not the Faber Translation!

Don't waste the 99 cents. When I downloaded this it turned out it was a circa 1917 translation, and so pretty much worthless.

    Outstanding

In this book Nietzsche is amazing for having discovered all the flaws that even philosophers like himself make. To get an idea of his true meaning one will have to forget about all prejudices and even all truths for that matter! Once again, Nietzsche includes a fine collection of aphorisms to dispute all others.

    My story pt 1

Ok so here is the story of my life. I think youll find it boring but oh well. I have no real memory of my child hood untill i was five moons old. I had four brothers and one sister. I canot remember her name or my brothers'. My dad was darkclaw of bloodclan. When we were under attack by revenge clan. Bloodclan did not used to be strong mind that. My dad stayed in the nusery fighting off all cats. i remember one of my brothers left and was never seen ir heard from again. Untill later but read part 2 . Anyway, revengestar walked in. My dad fought him. Revengestar killed him instantly. He started rounding up the kits and my sister was next. I jumped on revengestars ear and it tore so i got a tighter grip. He yowled in pain while the kits ran away. I jumped and ran for my life. He was aboutto get me when... Moonclan renforcements. A warrior named moonfur took me to the safty of moonclan camp. I stayed there hoping there were survivors. Read part 2 for more!

    Terrible digitalization

Don't waste your time with this version. It's a scanned copy probably using an antique scanner! Every word with "r n" is automatically converted to "m". Therefore, "born" is converted to "bom" and virtually every "l" is converted to the symbol for British Pound Sterling. Ya, get what you paid for folks....

For a free book, it isn't bad

A lot of misprints, but not so bad that it renders the text unintelligible
irritatingly printed but useful if you want to catch up on your nietzsche

    Greatest Tramslation Ever!

Out of the translations K've read, definitely the best. Not dumbed down at all, but still uses language one can understand! Some passages take a couple rereadings, but that's.nietszche for ya.
