    Book about adoption is depressing

I was hoping for some words of wisdom from this book. I was very disappointed. The author mixes in her political viewpoints (far left of center) with her personal experiences raising two adopted Korean daughters to dish out advice for up and coming adoptive parents. All I can say is, this book depressed me. I came away without knowing what I was supposed to be doing but feeling certain that whatever I do, it will be the wrong thing. I have not been able to shake the feeling yet since I finished reading the book. It is really quite a negative book that will make you feel as if your adopted child will never lead a happy life.

A must for all current and prospective parents

Few books on international adoption have the honesty and courage of Beyond Good Intention. The author's status as an adoptive mother of adult adoptees gives her message weight and credibility. I just wish that prospective adoptive parents, as well as those with younger adopted children, would be able to read the book without being offended or feeling the need to be defensive. The ones who have the hardest time taking in the truths in this book, are the ones who need to read it the most. This book should be mandatory in all pre-adoption educations.

10 Hot Issues Within Korean Adoption

As the parent of adopted Korean adults I fall into the divide with those who like Beyond Good Intentions. I've discovered that you almost can't discuss this book within a circle of adopted Korean adults and adoptive parents without waiting in line for a turn to speak. All the readers I've met have strong opinions since the book identifies some of the hottest issues debated within the Korean adoption community. While my personal background and my adoptive parenting experience differs greatly from the author, I feel the topic 'ten choices well-meaning adoptive parents make that turn out not to serve adopted children's needs' is of key importance to address. The author naturally does this from her point of view, and yet the book also invites readers to explore their own experiences and feelings and to reach their own conclusions.
