    adventure

    This is a fascinating read right form the start I was hooked.Loved the humor in here and was sad when we almost lost our author.I reccomend this as a must read.

    Not from the headlines---from the frontlines!

    Remember when the whole country was DADT? Your mother whispered that someone had "lace on his underwear".... This book is the history of the end of that era, written from the viewpoint of the fellow around whom the initial fuss began. Gale Chester Whittington, after quietly suffering as a gay teenager in Denver, followed the yellow brick road to San Francisco, which ostensibly offered a more accessible gay community, more freedom of expression --- a whole different dimension from Colorado. And it was, until..... Well, you need to read the book. It's a very personal history of the dicovery that the closet was just too damned crowded, and everybody needed to come out. Together. At the same time. Gale avoids politicizating, pontificating, and...uh...other stuff, and keeps it as personal as a diary throughout. Because of its intimate tone, the reader is drawn into the life of this naive young man, and suffers and triumphs with him.
    a personal comment: I would consider this book for conflicted gay teens, with discussions with an understanding adult.
