Publishers Weekly
The latest offering from the author of Beyond Innocence and the Black Lace erotica series is a Regency-era romance in name only; Holly brings a level of sensuality to her storytelling that may shock the uninitiated. Daughter to the Duke of Monmouth, Merry Vance would be quite a catch for any suitor, but Merry has no interest in marriage. When her mother finally issues an ultimatum, Merry decides to make herself an ineligible candidate for matrimony by ruining herself with the help of painter Nicolas Craven. Merry agrees to pose nude for Nicolas, but she hasn't gambled on the intense attraction she feels for him. Fans of Robin Schone and Thea Devine will adore the steamy love scenes here, which go beyond the usual set pieces to include more intense sex play. However, the story isn't simply about sex; the relationships between parent and child are fascinating here and are explored in several permutations. Most surprising is Merry's lack of connection to her mother, a departure from the usual abstracted fondness of Regency-era parents. Nicolas must undergo his own struggles before he can come into his own, which include learning to be a parent. Readers looking for a light, playful Regency should look elsewhere, but fans of bolder romances will relish this potent combination of heady sexuality and intriguing characterization. (June) Forecast: Some like it hot, and these days, more romance readers than not are opting for sensual sparks. Many of Holly's erotica novels are out of print, and her fans are no doubt hungry for reading material, which bodes well for sales of this sultry read. Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.

In 1875 Lord Althorp warns Lavinia Vance that her daughter and his son will wed in one month or he will bare their former love affair to the Ton. An agitated Lavinia has failed to bring Ernest and Merry together and has no idea what is left to do.

When Merry rejects Ernest again, her parents give her one-week to change her mind or lose her beloved horses and her elderly loyal maid. On her way home, someone accosts Merry. Portrait artist Nicolas Craven having just completed a painting of Merry¿s father rescues her. She tells him her name is Mary Colfax before leaving him. Merry informs her parents she will visit her best friend in Wales while deciding whether to marry Ernest. However, she actually plans to become Nic¿s model so that her reputation is ruined and she will not have to marry anyone. Nic agrees and as he works on her portrait they both deny they are in love. Besides which, once he learns who she really is, Molly knows he will never forgive her deception.

This erotic Victorian romance is at its best when the plot focuses on the lead characters¿ troubles that in turn vividly bring the era to life. However, the explicit sex scenes seem included more as shock treatment than as erotic elements spicing up an engaging tale. BEYOND SEDUCTION is for those readers who want a triple X historical as Emma Holly, known for her torrid tales, treats her readers to an equatorial heated romance.

Really enjoyed this book. My first Emma Holly book - Good story, characters, adventure, mystery, love, heat - very good read!

This was one of the best books I have read in a long time. Besides having the right amount of erotica included, it has a very warm and moving story line. I found myself having empathy for several of the characters.

I don't think I've ever been more surprised by a book that I bought on a whim than I was with Beyond Seduction. Emma Holly has the gift for storytelling, and possibly more importantly when it comes to matters of romance, the ability to reduce a glacier to a puddle. The plot and characters were extremely well developed and, as several other reviewers implied, the romantic interludes were both spicier than a habanero pepper and beyond reproach. Beyond Seduction is a must read for anyone who enjoys a tantalizing tale from time to time.

Emma Holly is now a favorite of mine. After not reading romance novels for 6 years or so I have jumped back in with both feet. This book was sweet, romantic frustrating and sexual.

Emma Holly delivers a romantic yet provocative love story. Merry Vance¿s, character was introduced by Holly in Beyond Innocence, continuing her story was a stroke of genius. Her fiery independence is in absolute opposition to the obligations her sovereign blood line dictates. But she knows what she wants--contradiction or not to what she should want--she is determined to get it. It¿s not about having to marry, but about knowing yourself and finding the one that can make you complete. ¿You make me whole¿, professes true love. The love scenes are stimulating and in very good taste. Beyond Seduction is what a true ¿Romance¿ novel should be.

This is a great read. It is clever and sexy. The sizzling sex scenes are realistic and original.

I made the mistake of trying to read Beyond Seduction by the pool on a hot day! It is soooo hot, better read inside. Absolutely loved it. Also absolutely loved Shade of the Maple by Kirk Martin (fortunately switched to reading this one by the pool! not steamy, but incredibly romantic).

Emma Holly's second foray into mainstream 'romance' is definitely worth a read. If you enjoy Susan Johnson and Brenda Joyce's earlier works, you will enjoy Beyond Seduction. Emma Holly writes hot scenes that hint at her erotic fiction capabilities (Velvet Glove). HOT! I can't wait for Ms. Holly's next book that balances good ol' romance with passionately honest love scenes.
