Overview

All Noelle Cunningham has ever wanted is a life beyond—beyond the walls of Eden, where only the righteous are allowed to remain, and beyond her stiflingly restrictive existence as a councilman's daughter. But only ruins lie outside the City, remnants of a society destroyed by solar storms decades earlier.

The sectors surrounding Eden house the corrupt, the criminal—men like Jasper McCray, bootlegger and cage fighter. Jas clawed his way up from nothing to stand at the right hand of Sector Four's ruthless leader, and he'll defend the O'Kane gang with his life. But no fight ever prepared him for the exiled City girl who falls at his feet.

Her innocence is undeniable, but so is their intense sexual attraction, and soon they're crossing every boundary Noelle barely knew she had. But if she wants to belong to Jas, first she'll have to open herself to the gang, and to a world where passion is power, and freedom is found in submission.

This book was a pleasant surprise. It is much more than erotica.

This book was a pleasant surprise. It is much more than erotica. It is a very well thought out, nicely written story about a young woman both trying to adjust to a new life and trying to figure out who she really is.

The details put into creating the futuristic dystopian world that the characters live in illustrate the time and work put into the story. It doesn't serve just as a setting for the story, but it aids in explaining the mindset of all the characters. Furthermore, it provides a reference point for how difficult it is for Noelle to adapt to not just her new environment, but adjusting to a different way of thinking regarding herself. Throughout the story, you read how she adjusts from living in a world where socializing is regulated through communicating through computers/technology and things such as sex and alcohol are forbidden, to a world where sex and alcohol flow freely without shame.

Yes there is sex (and very well written, hot sex scenes), but this story is basically a sort of coming of age story. It's Noelle's story of growing up which includes exploring her sexuality and not being ashamed of it. When you read how her life is back in Eden, you come to understand why she has difficult times letting herself be open to the freedom that she has living in the Sector. You come to care for her and hope that she can find the strength to embrace the opportunity she has to live life as she should.

Don't let the summary fool you. This is a great story with strong, likeable characters. I was very moved with Noelle's story. It gave this book it's heart and made it more than just an erotica book. I was very pleasantly surprise and I have no shame in saying that I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

A hot, sexy read with a little dystopia

BEYOND SHAME is a definite recommend! Don't be scared off by mentions of BDSM because there's only a tease of it and it's not the sole focus of the story.

Only familiar with the Last Call series by Kit Rocha's other persona (Moira Rogers), I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I admit that the blurb made my inner smut sit up and growl. Sure, there was an orgy, a few F/F action, a ménage à quatre, exhibitionism/voyeurism, and a little slap and tickle. But in the end, BEYOND SHAME ended up being a rather sweet, sexy/hot story involving some memorable characters.

Set in a dystopian world struggling to survive in the aftermath of solar storms, the story starts when Noelle is cast out of Eden--literally--for possession/consumption of alcohol and fornication. Expelled with nothing but the clothes on her back, Noelle is the proverbial innocent lamb thrown to the wolves prowling the debauched and depraved Sector slums. Luckily, she's saved by Jasper, a member of the O'Kane gang which controls Sector Four. I actually gave a mental "thumbs up" to the author for foregoing instant sex in favor of building up the sexual tension from their instant attraction.

Raised and trained to be a proper wife (organize/manage a household and host elaborate dinner parties), Noelle plaintively says at one point, "I don't know what I want. I don't know anything." Through Noelle's experiences and interactions with various members of the O'Kane "family", as well as the multiple POVs, we realize that they all have a heart of gold underneath their rough and tough exteriors. And each member helps Noelle in some way to get her bearings, gain a little self-esteem, and carve her own niche within the gang. But most of all, Noelle learns to overcome her ingrained shame and embrace her sexual desires within the accepting openness found in Sector Four.

I initially thought that this book was a 5-star shoo-in. But when I started to write my review, the left side of my brain (aka "Party Pooper") suddenly popped up like a petulant child and reminded me of notes and questions taken subconsciously. (E.g., Noelle was sexually curious, but I had difficulties separating that from her more basic condition of being touch-starved due to Eden's tenet that "raising healthy, moral children" necessitated minimizing a child's dependence on tactile affection, even in the form of toys or stuffed animals, as well as the social taboo forbidding unnecessary physical contact.) Because this review is based on an ARC, some of the plot weaknesses I noticed may have been addressed prior to actual publication (ARC had 239pgs while Kindle has 354pgs).

Technical assessment based on the ARC may have ultimately lowered the final rating, but I still thoroughly enjoyed BEYOND SHAME and plan to read the next book in this series. Is it 2013 yet?

    I want MORE!
Tattoos, gangs and BDSM oh my! Im giving this book the one handed read salute! Not only is this book super hot but its got a really good story to back it up. I absolutely LOVE this book. I love sacrificing virgins and Noelle is the perfect naughty virgin. She pretty much knows what she wants but it too ashamed to ask for it. Jasper is the holy grail (for me) of holy hunkness with his sexy beard, tattoos and commanding but chivalrous presence.
I had a very hard time putting this book down. If you like sexy badasses with tattoos, BDSM, ménage, F/F with a hot virgin, then this is it for you!

I'm really ashamed of myself for not reading this book sooner, b

I'm really ashamed of myself for not reading this book sooner, because this was such an amazing read! To give you guys some background info, the Beyond series takes us to a post-apocalyptic world where society is divided up into sections. Within each section they all have their own inner workings and rules that they abide by, which can also be a source of conflict between them as well. Now I generally don’t read post-apocalyptic/dystopian type romances, they have just never really been my thing, but I must confess that I was intrigued by the blurb for Beyond Shame. After hearing quite a few glowing recommendations from my friends, I bit the bullet and I’m ever so glad that I did.

Noelle has lived a privileged life in Eden being a councilman’s daughter but after being caught breaking the rules, she is thrown into Section 4 with only the clothing on her back. Lucky for her, she is saved by Jasper just before she falls victim to the many predators lurking within section 4 that are more than happy to divest her of anything they can. Jasper is second in command to Dallas O’Kane, and she finds herself as part of the O'Kane clan before she even realizes what she has truly gotten herself into. They open up her eyes to a world of lust and intense gratification that she has only ever dreamed about. This brings about a sense of awakening within Noelle, and she and Jasper embrace their undeniable attraction to each other. Unfortunately, she is also a distraction from his duties. When Noelle's past catches up with her and her life is at risk, will Jasper send her back to the privileged life he feels she deserves, or will he fight to keep her and allow her to embrace who she really is inside?

Like Noelle, I think that I’ve been sheltered and I’ve read quite a lot of erotic romances. These guys live a life of sexual decadence that may only live in books, but I can definitely see how she was so tempted by all that section 4 laid at her feet. Wow, doesn’t even begin to sum up what I thought about this book. It really was great read. Even though it wasn’t my favorite type of sub-genre, I found myself absorbed into this world of gritty chaos. Each character introduced to us was well developed, and the author leaves you craving their stories, too. I’ve used these adjectives to describe another book series that I loved, but it is more than fitting for this one too. It was gritty, raw, unapologetic, and incredibly sexy beyond words. Right now, I’m going to dive right into the next book in this series, so I’m definitely going to suggest this one to you guys. I can’t wait to read about Dallas and Lex, because the buildup in this one leads me to think that they will be an explosive combination! Now on to the next!

Man oh man..... This book was HOT, HOT, HOT..... What a guy Jas is, lucky Noelle!! Characters are fab - totally alpha males, strong sassy females and loads of action!!

Noelle was a quiet girl who had been stifled living in Eden. Jas is a rough, tough hard living man who has seen a lot during his life in the sectors.
We are introduced to the O'Kane gang and their 'King' Dallas. Although a gang, this group of people very much stick together and have each other's backs... They have a real family vibe and a healthy respect for each other.

The gang are very sexual and are all very open and comfortable with the life they lead. Through the story there are some smokin' hot encounters!! Surprisingly, given the hard, down & dirty living they do, there is a moral code that all members of the gang buy into and no-one is forced to take part in anything they don't want to!!

The story has action, passion, romance and some violence.
There's cage fighting, tattoos a plenty and a journey of self discovery - it's great watching Noelle evolve from the sheltered Eden girl to a fully engage free-thinking O'Kane.....

Looking forward to the reading Lex & Dallas's story, as well as the rest of the books in the series - have read the teaser 1st chapter to 'Beyond Control' and I'm betting this is gonna be another cracker of a book!!!
I'm sure loads more cold showers will be required... ;D

I really like this book. so much so that i read it borrowed from nook friend and then bought the ebook plus the next two in the series. I only complaint was that it seemed jumpy a few times. Maybe more back ground on what major event happened to put humanity in the place it is set. But over all I liked it a lot.
And the sex scenes are just shew....thats all I can say. When you live your sex fanatasies through reading, books like this one can be a major lift!!!!!! =)

    Review:

"Beyond Shame" by Kit Rocha was truly a novel that left me saying WoW! I will say that if you are not into kinky sex with all BDSM, exhibitism, bondage and bad language when this novel isn't for you...so close the book and move on. Now, for the rest of you where sex scences, whips, cuffs, floggers, BDSM, muliple partners, and language such as: m/f, f/f, m/f/m, and m/f/, m/f/f/m... doesn't bother you...then this read would probably be for you. This novel is where sex is part of the story...short and simple. With that being said I found the book very interesting...never have I read anything like it before. It was of a dystopian/apocalyptic world. It starts with Noelle Cunningham has been drugged..wakes up to find she has been thrown out of her home (City of Eden) for being "less of a model citizen" and comes upon Jasper Mc'Cray who is second in command of the O'Kanes. Jasper takes her to his gang family and the story will pick up from here. This is where I say you must pick up "Beyond Shame" to see where this author will takes you. Be ready because there will be so much going on in this dark good read you must keep up because "all the O'Kane men are fighting alpha males with biting sexy muscles with tattoos all over" and their are women who would give you cause to think too...with their tattoos and all. The authors characters were simply off the chain well developed and mostly likeable.

"Beyond Shame" was definitely a dystopian hot erotic romance novel that will keep you well entertained and definitely left me saying Wow...what a read...Would I recommend? If this is your kind of read you will proably love it.
