Great summer read. Clean, inspirational, exciting!

I love this book! I agree with the other reviewers that this book is totally absorbing. It is a great book for club discussion, with lots of issues addressed
As usual, Wingate gives us characters that wind their way into our hearts. I was excited to meet again some characters from the Tending Roses series and Teddy from A Month of Summer. When Shasta and family move to a run-down Dallas neighborhood she soon sees that house after house is being gobbled up by a real estate firm and suspects that their first home purchase could be in jeopardy also. Tam, whose family (sans the father) moves in across the street becomes a friend as they help each marshall the community to deal with the real estate issues, illiteracy, and a homeless women who starts out as faceless, but becomes a real person to them. Learning more about what happens to Dell and Jace and more about Dell's father is a bonus to me, a long-time Wingate fan. Now, we finally know the rest of the story... It's the best summer read out there! Wingate has done it again.

    Beyond Summer by Lisa Wingate

Lisa Wingate's latest book, Beyond Summer is an inspiring, motivational and uplifting book! Aunt Lute's "the best things in life hide around blind corners" is only one of many lessons taught. Beyond Summer is an exciting journey with three individuals who meet as a result of shady real estate deals causing good families to lose their homes and meet at the Summer Kitchen.

Tam is the 18 year old daughter of a once wealth former Dallas Football star. She and her family are evicted from their country club home. Terence, Dell's biological Dad who was in prison during Dell's childhood years, gets a chance to help Seasy, the homeless person. Terence comes through magnificently! The stories of these individuals causes a range of emotions from sadness, to happiness and joy. And in the end this reader was left with a mind filled with good feelings!

I very highly recommend this book!

    more from this reviewer

    Good modern read

Written very simply, Beyond Summer knocks on the doors of hardship and interdependence. It opens the doors of truth on how being proactive, maintaining faith, and loving and caring for one another unconditionally can guide us from obstacles and close-mindedness to unlimited possibilities.

I think the story was a little bit slow in development. As a reader, the tenderness of the characters was somewhat predictable, but I would have enjoyed it more if there was more emphasis placed on the "brighter side" of things. I was also a little disappointed in the friendship between Tam and Shasta. I selected this book mainly for the friendship I was so expecting to find. It was not elaborate enough and lacked depth.

All in all, many morals and lessons are inside this book. It exposes the truth behind mortgage companies and shows how important support is for any individual.

    What a great read!

No other way to say it, this is an incredible book. Lisa Wingate never disappoints, and Beyond Summer is no exception. The way she brings together women from different backgrounds and shows the things they have in common is amazing. Each character is wise in her own way, lost in portions of her own life, and together they fit to somehow form a whole. Isn't that what communities are all about?

Read this book. Share it with the people who make a difference in your life. You'll be glad you did!

    "BEYOND SUMMER" BY lisa Wingate

This is a story that could touch every household in America. Every person in each house has a story. From the breadwinner to the smallest child who has no say in his or her life. They are the innocent who have been given their lot in life and have to accept it until they reach a certain age, or life changes in some small or drastic way. At least most have a home with a warm bed in which to sleep. There are other innocents that as babes were taken from their homes and forced to live the unimaginable. This story brings all of these people together, all with their different lifestyles, different stories, and different layers. Layers upon layers.....layers that are uncovered and peeled back until you see that at the bottom layer we are all God's children put here not for our own privilege but for God's. That even who would be considered the lowest has something wonderful to contribute. Take the journey with "Beyond Summer" and find out where you would fit in. "Beyond Summer" will change how you look at life, at others, at yourself. If a heart beats and eyes can see, you will never look at another homeless person the same way. Come take the journey and enter the kaleidoscope of the colors of life that Lisa Wingate has spun in her new novel. You'll recognize some of the characters and fall in love with the new ones. Take the journey; you will be blessed as I have been blessed. Virginia Rush
