    Great Book!

As a professional photographer, I eat up any kind of photography information, so Beyond the Glamour Photograph was a treat for me. It was chocked full of information and I loved that it comes with an instructional DVD.
I kind-of expected the book to be fluff about how to take sexy photos, but it's much more than that. It offers information on the technical side of the photography technique, which is genuinely useful to the professional photographer. For example, the book delves into the proper use of f-stops, lighting and ISO during glamour shoots.
I also appreciated the section on how to find models because it gives a list of reputable websites and agencies to use in your quest for good models.
The tips on how to seem more professional and not just look like a "guy with a camera" are great for building a good reputation in the glamour field. No one wants to get the rep of a wanna-be and this book has many tips for gaining a good reputation with the models and the clients.
I think this would be a good book for new-comers or more experienced photographers looking to get into glamour photography.

Get the Skinny on Glamour Photography

Beyond the Glamour Photograph; How to Get Started and Be Successful as a Boudoir, Glamour, and Swimsuit Photographer is a thorough yet simple guide to getting started in the glamour photography industry. Authors Jack Watson with Andy McFarland have more than 30 years of experience in the industry between them.

The book begins by defining the difference between true glamour photography and soft porn. It also explains why model selection is more important to the industry than equipment and technology. The book does delve pretty deeply into equipment and technique, however. Even experienced photographers will learn subtle differences between capturing their familiar subjects versus shooting glamour.

Dozens of pictures help tell the story, especially in Chapter 7 which discusses editing and touchup techniques. Chapter 8 does a good job describing legalities and helpful bookkeeping procedures, including a US code for using models in photography. Copyright and stock photography rights are also well explained.

The authors discuss their strategies for fees, fee negotiation and usage rights, as well as tips on how to get photography assignments. Sometimes the authors differ in their procedures and philosophies, and it is helpful to see that there is no "one right way" to accomplish the task at hand.

Marketing your work is an important facet of a photographer's business, and Chapter 10 and 11 offer good tips for how to get your name and work out there. Publication of work is covered in Chapter 12.

The comprehensive 47-page appendix offers a state-by-state reference list of modeling agencies. The book includes an instructional DVD.

    Very Useful

In this book, Watson and McFarland use their extensive experience to give useful and valuable tips to budding photographers. The A to Z of photography process is explained by the authors. They start with contacting models to photography techniques to editing techniques and even delve into backup and storage of photos. The subtle line between photography and soft pornography is well-explained with different images and poses. These images speak for themselves and the reader gets a good idea of what the authors are trying to convey. The authors add their personal experiences and perspectives in the book and this makes it a very enjoyable reading experience for the readers.
A lot of importance is given to the technical aspects of photography. Extensive information is provided about the right kind of camera, lens, shutter speed and ISO that the photographer must use to get appealing and attractive pictures. This book also gives the readers a lot of insight into the editing process including the computer and the different software that can be used to get a great picture.
In short, this is a great book for anyone aspiring to be a photographer.

    Great for Photographers and Models

As an amateur photographer I got quite a lot of useful information from "Beyond the Glamour Photograph." The author provides a lot of technical information about how a camera works and how to set up photos, but he does it using real-life examples instead of dry instructional prose. The dizzying photography concepts like ISO and f-stop are much easier to understand with the examples that are included in this book.

The information that is specific to glamour photography is invaluable. The author manages to clarify the line between glamour and soft porn in a way that makes sense, which is difficult to do with such an ambiguous subject. I like that even thought this book is geared primarily toward glamour photographers, the author includes information that would also be helpful to aspiring glamour models.

This book would be an excellent guide for anyone who is serious about becoming a glamour photographer. It gives you everything you need to get started, then leaves you to create your own style using the tools that have been explained. With the wealth of website addresses that the author has included this resource will lead you to other resources. Anyone who really wants to enter the world of glamour photography should read this book.
