Overview

The author of SAINT returns with a new novel about Lotte Keene, a biological detective who has had enough of government bureaucracy at the CDC and leaves, but can never escape.

After surviving the outbreak of a pathogen in the Amazonian jungle, Keene returns home and is pulled into the seemingly infinite mystery of a new, still more lethal killer in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. There for the first time in her forensic biology career she confronts a pathogen so potent and lethal that it seems unnatural. She also discovers secrets in the forested mountains that no one wants to know.

Lotte Keene is about to rewrite the rules of biogenetic science and cross the thin red, white and blue line between American principle and power.

Yosemite to government secret labs to powerful CEOs. Bravo! -Suzanne Evans

About the Author

You know a Mark Roger Bailey novel by its compelling 'what if' concept, infectious confidence, and characters who stay with you forever. Haunting, thought provoking and cinematic describe his award-winning work. His novels, SAINT and BEYOND THESE WOODS, are such tales.

His first novel, RUNNING IN THE WOODS, secured a New York agent and praise from acquiring editors, but not a publishing contract.

Following Emmy-winning work in television and advertising, he formed MBCI to develop international creative projects including television coverage of yachtsman Dennis Conner's successful Stars & Stripes America's Cup campaign to win the Cup back from Australia. He went on to write, produce and direct projects in Australia, England, Italy, the Vatican, Switzerland and Ireland researching stories that captured his imagination. He also worked as a creative strategist and writer at Sony Pictures Entertainment and Columbia TriStar Home Video, marketing popular movies Men in Black, Legends of the Fall, A Few Good Men, Das Boot, Jerry Maguire and others.

He conceived his next novel, SAINT, where the story begins, on the cliffs at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, CA. Behind him, the world-famous Salk Institute and biomedical research labs; before him, the vast blue Pacific. The potential for unlocking the keys to creation, memory and consciousness compelled him to distraction. He wrote the outline and pitch in three days. Writing the novel took two years, including a rare visit to the 2,000 year-old city of the dead deep beneath St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican, where the story reaches its climax.

In BEYOND THESE WOODS Bailey explores the irreconcilable values that drive some men to destroy what Nature has taken millions of years to evolve, what drives others to destroy human life in defense of Nature, and what drives one flawed yet ultimately pragmatic woman to take a stand that will end the cycle of violence.

Recently, he managed the launch of actor and environmentalist Robert Redford's Conservancy for Southern California Sustainability.

He writes every day and serves as vice president of communications, marketing and public relations at one of the most selective liberal arts colleges in the United States. He and his wife live in California.
