Dismissed from the university where she served as Professor of Romantic Languages, Dr. Molly Whitcomb travels west to start over in the secluded mountain town of Timber Ridge, Colorado, where she'll be teaching children. Her train stops in Denver, and on a whim, Molly purchases a wedding band—an attempt to cover a mistake, but also a chance at a fresh start. Sheriff James McPherson was eager to hire a schoolteacher, but Dr. Molly Whitcomb isn't what he expected. His instincts about people—which rarely miss the mark—tell him she's hiding something. And when Molly's secret is revealed, her reinvented life begins to unravel. What's more, she risks losing her newfound relationship with the sheriff and her renewed faith in God.

Editorial Reviews

Ms. Alexander has a deft way of throwing together two protagonists who have immediate chemistry and sparks but also big conflicts. She paints the Colorado wilderness with such skill that you can smell the pines and hear them signing in the wind. She shows the prejudices of the time period and how unjust they were. The theme of Beyond This Moment is that no matter how one ruins his or her life, God can redeem it if they only turn to Him.

Read this book in two evenings. (I am a fast reader.) Reminded me that we all fall short and would not be saved but for the Glory if God. Great formation of characters. Good Christian and historical theme. Wish Alexander would write a sequel.

When I was younger, I read historical fiction all of the time. As I grew older, I moved to contemporary fiction. Beyond This Moment is the first trip I've made into historical fiction in awhile, and I'm glad I went "back in time" for it! It took me a couple of chapters to get hooked, but once I got into the story, I couldn't put it down. (I stayed up late to finish it and was exhausted the next day, but it was worth it!) Tamera Alexander's characters are some of the most "real" that I've read in awhile. It is not easy for them, and I appreciate the truth of that. Molly has made mistakes (and I won't give them away), and she faces the consequences of those mistakes, but I felt for her and rooted for her all the way through the book. And James... oh, James! He made my heart skip a beat more than once! You'll definitely want to read it more than once.

Reading the back cover blurb for the book a reader knows that the main character Molly Whitcomb has a secret that is reputation-ruin worthy. After reading the first chapter a reader knows what that secret is. I am quite certain there will be some readers who will give up right there on this book, but oh how I wish you would not. This is not a story about making mistakes and moving on with life. This is a story about being a fallible human and living with it. There are times in life where your insides are screaming to just let this moment be gone, or just to be "beyond the moment". Yet, our heavenly Father knows what is best for us. This novel is a sequel, but is quite a stand alone. It is powerful and edgy and really pushes the limits of your conscience and what-if scenarios. I highly recommend this read as one to deepen your heart and convictions and see the inside of some people you might have just ignored in different circumstances. Think hard about casting those stones. Read this book and grow and learn from the experience.

Heartbreakng at points. Her sorrow and desire to change seem authentic. I liked the emphasis on her value as a person of worth. I LOVED her sweet and happy relationship with James. Some big what are you made of moments - and I loved people more for handling hard situations with love and grace.

This was an exciting read. Tamera Alexander has a way to make you feel as though you were there, in that moment. It is so hard to put down. A good friend of mine loaned me the first book to this series, and from then on I was hooked. I have purchased the last 2 of this series on my Nook. It is so easy to do! I love this series. I look forward to reading more of Tamera Alexander's books in the future!!

I like books that are not complicated, enjoyable, and draw me into the characters lives. This book fit that bill well. It drew me into it so much that I just downloaded number three for my nook. I like to read a bit before bed, and this was so good, I often stayed up too late reading. There are a few things that I felt were a bit "over the top" in the action, but I just went with it and it was fine. It wasn't so bad that it took away from the enjoyment of the book itself. If you like Christian Historical Fiction, you'll like this one.

"Beyond This Moment" is a compelling story that tells the cost of deception and how God can cause the truth to bring redemption and forgiveness. Doctor Molly Whitcomb has secured a teaching job in Timber Ridge, Colorado. But she is really escaping a mistake she's made that will follow her to the growing frontier town. Molly is pregnant and has never been married. She desperately wants to put the past behind her and decides a small deception, saying she's a widow, will help her do it. But she has second thoughts as her feelings grow for the straight-shooting, honest Sheriff James McPherson. James grows more fond of Molly with each day that passes. But his integrity is challenged when he finds that Molly has been keeping her preganacy a secret. He suspects she's hiding more than the child. But he's keeping a secret of his own, one that threatens to tear apart their budding relationship. This love story takes place against the backdrop of a town dealing with thier prejudices against immigrants and freed black slaves and their self-righteous views on right and wrong. I highly recommend this novel.

Tamera Alexander has to be one of the most talented authors around today. I've thoroughly enjoyed all of her books, but this most recent one is now my VERY favorite. With her descriptive, emotion-filled writing, Tamera takes the reader back in time and you actually feel that you're there with the characters and witnessing the events. I became so "caught up" in this story that when I reached the end, I had tears, goosebumps, and was sighing out loud! If you are a fan of historical fiction, you will LOVE reading Beyond This Moment. FIVE STARS and CHEERS for Tamera Alexander!!!

In a remarkable story of love, revelation and forgiveness, Alexander's Beyond the Moment takes you to the majestic Colorado Territory where you can sense the snowflakes brushing your face. You smile and sometimes shed a tear as her vivid characters come to grips with their secrets and trials. The Timber Ridge folks will remain in your life long after you turn the last page.

I've never read a book by Tamera Alexander until "Beyond this Moment." I'm now officially a fan. Her story kept me turning pages yet savoring every scene--part of me not wanting it to end-- part of me anxious for what would happen next. Her setting and characters are well researched and authentic. Tamera Alexander's skillful writing whisks the reader away to the Colorado territory of 1876 and holds them until the last page when the reader reluctantly returns to present day to await the next novel in the Timber Ridge series due in the fall of 2009. This novel will be a favorite.

What a perfect blend of romance, longing, deception, regret, forgiveness and grace. Set in the beautiful Colorado Territory in 1876, this book captured my attention from the very beginning and didn't let go until the final scene. Filled with strong, believable characters immersed in a tangled web of half-truths and outright lies, Tamera masterfully weaves in threads of hope and the God of second chances. Highly recommend.
