Overview

The largest-selling edition of the Gita in the Western world, Bhagavad-gita As It Is is more than a book. It is alive with knowledge and devotion; thus it has the power to change your life for the better.

Bhagavad-gita is knowledge of five basic truths and the relationship of each truth to the other: These five truths are Krishna, or God, the individual soul, the material world, action in this world, and time. The Gita lucidly explains the nature of consciousness, the self, and the universe. It is the essence of India's spiritual wisdom, the answers to questions posed by philosophers for centuries.

In translating the Gita, A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada has remained loyal to the intended meaning of Krishna's words, and thus he has unlocked all the secrets of the ancient knowledge of the Gita and placed them before us as an exciting opportunity for self-improvement and spiritual fulfillment.

The Gita is a conversation between Krishna and His dear friend Arjuna. At the last moment before entering a battle between brothers and friends, the great warrior Arjuna begins to wonder: Why should he fight? What is the meaning of his life? Where is he going after death?

In response, Krishna brings His friend from perplexity to spiritual enlightenment, and each one of us is invited to walk the same path.

There are many translations of the Bhagavad Gita. Some have even been done by liberated yogis. The reason why this one by Prabhupada is the best is because he includes the roman transliteration of the original Sanskrit text. The gorgeous paintings by his disciples are also noteworthy, but with the roman transliteration of the original sanskrit text, you may study this alone and feel the true meaning of these timeless verses resonate in your heart from Krishna himself. Prabhupada's is the one to get if you want to understand this dialogue between Sri Krishna and his disciple Arjuna, with your heart and not with your brain. This book will place your life above the miseries around you, it is that transformative!

I was at warped tour when a man carrying a few books stopped by and asked if we would like them. My friends were not so thrilled about receiving the books as we are of another faith. But im always looking for new things to read that promote peace and spiritual enlightenment. The man gave this book to me for no charge along with a pamphlet on becoming a monk and shouting hare krishna and walked away. My friends seemed disappointed that i took this book but after reading and studying it and underlining what i consider to be important it has absolutely changed my life. I absolutely loved this and would definitely recommend you read it.
