Featuring the talents of dancers-turned-singer/guitarists Mark Ballas and Derek Hough, Ballas Hough Band is a poppy outfit that delivers slick, radio-ready modern dance-rock on its 2009 debut album BHB. Best known as dancers on ABC's Dancing with the Stars, Ballas and Hough formed the band while training and dancing in England in 2007. And although it's more than likely that the popularity of the ABC show is a big reason why BHB is getting some attention, the music ain't bad either. Both Ballas and Hough actually play their own instruments and are backed by a legitimate ensemble of bandmembers including keyboardist/vocalist Emily Grace, bassist Sam Marder, and drummer Harry Sullivan. The resulting sound is definitely more rock-informed than one might expect and should draw favorable comparisons to such similarly inclined outfits as Maroon 5 and The Jonas Brothers. Tracks like the club-ready "Do You Love Me?" and the revved-up "Fall" mix high-energy hip-pop and rawk with a teen pop sensibility that should appeal to a generation raised on the legacy of Michael Jackson filtered through American Idol and Justin Timberlake.

    An Excellent Band

Seeing this band perform at The Grove was extremely exciting. Being able to take their music home with me helps me relive the event time and again. This unique band is a joy to listen to. Great original songs. Highly recommended.

From Ballroom Dancers to Pop Stars

The Ballas Hough Band has a good, solid, upbeat sound for their debut album titled BHB. Anyone who's given ABC's hit show Dancing With the Stars even a passing glance knows the names Mark Ballas and Derek Hough. Growing up in musically inclined families heavily influenced their fresh sound very reminiscent of Maroon 5.

The Ballas Hough Band credits a diverse range of influences -- from Michael Jackson to Prince, Queen, and even Nirvana. Their first single "Do It For You" is the perfect introduction to the band's pop sensibilities especially having been co-written by the new American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi.

They are easy to listen to, my kids love them and so they are definitely added to our music repertoire. Give them a listen and you will find yourself singing along to "Do It For You" or "Closer."

    Bright and Poppy

If you have heard the names Ballas Hough before, you are probably a fan of Dancing with the Stars. These two "stars" of the show collaborate on this fresh, new album. A little pop, a little dance, and a lot of fun, this album will want you to get up and dance!

    better than expected

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first put the Ballas Houghs Band CD in I liked the sound right away and the more I listened, the more I liked it. It's a really easy to listen to sound, one of those cds you can put in and listen straight through and enjoy. I actually listed to it 3 times through on itunes before I even realized I had even listened to it once. The songs sound similar enough to all flow together really well, but different enough to stand on their own. Its pop and dance and would be a great cd to play during a party, while cleaning, or just dancing with your family/children/friends. It's also an enhanced cd with links to their sites!

Longing For, Do It For You and Break Through are my favorite songs from the album, but honestly in my opinion there is not one song that is bad. I recommend this CD to anyone who likes pop music like Justin Timberlake, Maroon 5, it even sort of reminds me of Savage Garden. Even if you don't like any of them, give it a chance, you may be surprised!

This CD confirms, not only are Mark Ballas and Derek Hough amazing professional dancers (winning in seasons 6 & 7) but they are also amazing singers.

    Surprising in a Good Way

Mark Ballas & Derek Hough are best known for their talented dancing on Dancing With the Stars. I wasn't sure what to expect from them as musicians. I'm impressed that they wrote most of the songs on this album. The music is a catchy blend of pop & rock, good for background music or singing along. Decent harmonies, & some very nice instrumental backing, particularly on Closer, Longing For and Underwater. Most of the songs focus on love or love gone wrong. I enjoyed this album, & look forward to future efforts from Ballas/Hough as they continue to develop their own musical style.

    Singing With the Stars

If you're a fan of Mark Ballas and Derek Hough from "Dancing With the Stars," you'll be pleasantly surprised to find they can sing as well as they can dance. Their new CD, "BHB" showcases their talent with sounds ranging from funky ("Do You Love Me") to smooth ("Longing For") and everything in between. And with clean lyrics, you don't have to worry about playing the songs in front of your kids (in fact, they'll probably be singing right along with you).

Good CD to listen to while traveling

This CD is ok. The music is a little too soft for me. I prefer music that is a little more upbeat. The CD is good for listening to on a long, relaxing train ride or airplane flight but not so great for a dance club or party.

    Nice Surprise

When I first heard of the Ballas Hough Band my first thought was "gimmick" but after one listen to the album that thought was washed away. These guys really do have some musical talent. The entire album was entertaining, from the catchy dance-invoking hooks to the slower emotion-filled songs like "Underwater." I admit I would have enjoyed it a bit more during my teen boy band phase, but even as a 31-year-old mom it is catchy and worth the listen.

Don't let the name fool you!

To me, the name sounds like a big band from the 1940's, or a cruise ship band. But they are far from it! Don't let the name fool you! They sound like a pop or a top 40 band. Two of the band members are in the tv show "Dancing With the Stars, and Derek Hough is the brother of Julianne Hough, another "Dancing with the Stars" dancer, and a very talented singer in her own right. They definitely are a couple of very musically talented siblings! I can see a number of these songs hitting the top 40 charts. The vocals sound, to me, like Justin Timberlake. Who I do not like, but I like these singers. And you can dance to the whole cd! This is one of the few cd's lately that it is actually worth downloading the whole cd, not just one or two songs. My favorite song is Fall, which has an edge to it. Another song, Break Through, is right up there also! These two songs are going in my Ipod!

Upbeat, Catchy and FUN - Great all-around music!!

You may be more familiar with the names Mark Ballas and Derek Hough from Dancing With The Stars, where these guys have proven that they can dance . . . and now they have proven that they can sing as well! This is a fun, upbeat cd that will have you smiling in no time. Pop music with a little more maturity, this album is sure to be a favorite among all-ages. At times this album is reminiscent of some of the more popular boy-bands such as N-Sync, and artists such as Justin Timberlake.

This album is great to use as background music at work, or listening in the car on the way home. It is equally as nice for home use, while cooking, cleaning, or just hanging out. If you haven't listened to them before, head over to Amazon, where you can listen to clips from each song - you may find a new all-around favorite!

    Surprisingly Good Vocals

I was a bit surprised at this band. I did not expect them to be much good. I have been watching them on Dancing with the Stars and thought this was just another way for them to get noticed. They actually can sing. However, I think they are more for the younger people than the older ones. I believe teens; especially teen girls will love them. They have a blend of sounds like the Maroon 5 and the Jonas Brothers, with a little of the David Archuleta sound. I love the song, "Longing For". You get to hear Emily Grace on this one and she is really good. Some of my favorites on this album are: "Underwater", "Do It for You", and "Birthday". Mark Ballas and Derek Hough have great vocals and are very talented. Mark wrote most of the songs on the album. On "Ballas Hough Band", all the songs had the same type of tone and style. It kind of got boring after the first few songs. Maybe they can change up a little on their next album, give adding more variety in they types of songs. I would love to hear they do some soft as well as really powerful vocals. Other than that, this is a great album and is worth its price.

Special thanks goes to One2One Network for this opportunity to review the Ballas Hough Band CD.

I listen to and appreciate a wide variety of music.

March 10, 2009 was the release date for the debut album from BHB!

    Ballas Hough Band

If you are a fan of Dancing with the Stars - then you'll know these guys, Mark Ballas and Derek Hough. I knew these guys could dance, but I didn't know they had their own band. BHB has songs that are upbeat and refreshing. This is just good, clean music. The songs are really catchy. The first single, "Do It For You" is co-written by new American Idol Judge Kara DioGuardi and it's one of my favorites. But, the majority of the songs on the album were written by the band themselves. I also like the songs, "Do you Love Me", "Fall" and "Underwater". The music has a similar flavor to the Backstreet Boys and Maroon 5.

    Pleasantly Infectious

Anyone who is a fan of "Dancing with the Stars" knows Mark Ballas and Derek Hough, but, they may not know exactly how multi-talented these guys are.
Not only are they champion dancers, but, they also have loved music since they were small. This love led to playing music as well as writing.

I admire their commitment both to their music as well as to their friendship. Somehow, doing what you love with someone you are best friends with really adds to the chemistry and enhances the experience. That exuberance is pleasantly infectious.

This is the type of cd that grows on you. I am not a huge pop music fan, but, the more I listen to the songs, the more I enjoy them.
The mood is very uptempo and is great for dancing. I also found it's excellent for working out or for cleaning house. It really is high-energy and upbeat.

Their sound, for me, is like a combination of George Michael and Wham, Michael Jackson, and Prince - with a hint of Marc Anthony thrown in. It is the type of cd that I feel would definitely appeal to a young crowd, but, that doesn't mean all ages can't enjoy it.
    It's feel-good music.

The cd begins with "Do You Love Me" which is very current, head bopping music.
"Devastated" is catchy, about the ups and downs of love. I really like
    the harmonies in this.
My favorite of the cd is definitely "Underwater. For me, it's the most moving and has a slow sensual feel, almost dreamlike.

Overall, BHB is the type of cd you want to crank up and play anytime you want to jam.

BHB is like cotton candy - light, tasty, fun and leaves you smiling.

    WORTH A LISTEN

I expected The Ballas Hough Band's first album to be like so many other celebrity-turned-singer albums, all fluff and no talent. I have to admit I was wrong! What I knew of them was from their appearances on Dancing With the Stars, so I wasn't expecting pop music! Their sound is Very boy-band, but in a good way. The Ballas Hough Band credits Michael Jackson, Prince, Queen, and Nirvana as their early inspirations and their influences can be heard throughout.

Their single, "Do It For You" was co-written by the new American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi - it's a pop song that reminds me of early Justin Timberlake & Britney Spears. "Devastated" is Maroon-5 flavored but throws in a little bit of Daughtry as well. Couldn't help but think it also would have fit in well in the 70s - a bit of a throwback - to the time of Queen.

Mark Ballas began playing the guitar at the age of 4 and at the age of 12 began to write and perform his own music, playing guitar, drums and bass. With his best friend Derek Hough, he formed the band Almost Amy, now known as Ballas Hough Band. Other members of the band are Emily Grace - flute/sax/piano/vocals, Sam Marder - bass and Harry Sullivan - drums.

    Check em' out!!!

    Great Exercise Music

I really enjoy listening to this CD while jogging and have lost 15 pounds. Its really uplifting and improves my mood each day. I am planning to buy this CD for each of my friends that are losing weight.

There are 11 songs and each one is great. I don't have a favorite.

    Pleasantly Surprised!

I admit that I was pleasantly surprised with the Ballas Hough Band. Who knew that these awesome dancers could also sing? And they wrote many of the songs themselves!

Many of their songs are about their own experiences with love and heartbreak (Fall, Devastated), but despite such emotional subjects, some of these songs just make you want to dance (Do You Love Me, Birthday).

Their first single from the album, Do It For You, is one of my favorite tracks. It was co-written by new American Idol judge Kara Dioguardi, and it's just another one of those songs that I can't get out of my head. I also enjoy Together Faraway--a mellow song with a very catchy chorus, and Longing For--a sweet ballad.

The CD is also an interactive CD--just pop it into your computer to go directly to various Ballas Hough Band sites, such as their Facebook and MySpace pages.

I really enjoyed Ballas Hough Band's debut album, BHB, and I already can't wait for their sophomore album!

    Ballas Hough Band

BHB is a good cd. From the pop sounding "Do You Love Me", "Devastated" and "She was the One" to the gorgeous ballads, like "Breakthrough", "Longing For" and my favorite "Underwater", this cd has something for everyone, proving that Mark Ballas and Derek Hough can do more than dance. If you like Justine Timberlake and Maroon 5, check this disc out.

    Pretty good debut album

The Ballas Hough Band self titled CD is okay. Several of the songs are catchy and work with the sounds of today. "Do You Love Me", "Devastated", "Closer", "Longing For", "Fall", "Do It For You", "Break Through" and "underwater" are all pretty good. Some of them sound like Maroon 5. Others are more catchy. One even has a hip-hop vibe to it. My favorite song by far is "Fall".

"She Was the One" starts out really good, but then takes a turn towards a New Kids on the Block style. (Think Hangin' Tough) It ends up being one of the poorest songs on the CD.
"Together Faraway" and "Birthday" sound like 80s pop music and not in any good way.

It seems like they are trying out several musical styles on the same CD. This may be because they are trying to gauge which they are best at.or they have not really found themselves yet.

Overall, I would give the CD 3 & ½ stars out of 5. Not too shabby for a debut album.
