Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kristin Harris
Riding a bicycle can be fun and dangerous. Adding children can make it both more fun and more dangerous. The topic is addressed with care and thorough attention to detail. Step one is procuring a bicycle for parents who want to ride with toddlers and young children. It must be sturdy; a hybrid between a touring bike and a mountain bike is best. The author suggest always buy for quality and safety. Numerous photographs and line drawings make it easy understand why and how to purchase a bicycle that is the proper size for the rider. Fitting and proper wear of a helmet is also stressed and illustrated. There are two additional pieces of equipment parents can use to include their very young children in their riding experience, car trailers and car seats. As kids get a little older, the options for bicycles get more diverse and exciting. Trailer cycles and tandem bikes double the fun. When it is time for the little rider's first bike, again attention to detail and safety are very important. This volume is a valuable resource for bicycling families or those who want to get started. This book is well illustrated with black and white photographs and illustrations and contains much supplemental information about such things as bicycle polo, youth bicycle tours, and making money with a bicycle.
