The first book in the best-selling Big Bad Bite Series!
What would it be like to live in a world where you were considered abnormal even to those who were above the norm?

Jenna O'Conner is not human, nor is she considered the norm for the supernatural Other community. It's important she hide her true nature from both humans and Others.

Right after moving to a new city, Jenna runs into trouble in the form of a deadly, mouthwatering man named Adam McPhee. He's an alpha werewolf determined to do two things: figure out exactly what Jenna is and have her all to himself.

As if that weren't enough for Jenna to deal with, a group of extremist Shifters who consider humans to be cattle and who think that factions of Others should stay within their own species--never to intermingle--come to town. Jenna has to find a way to shut them down, but in the process of trying to do that, she discovers things about herself that even she had never thought were possible.
Who said the wolf was what you had to worry about?
Welcome to the real world--the Other world.

Book is 700 pages. Really could have been 350, 400 tops. Here is why- way too many pages on stuff not really related and as a PNR reader not wanted. I don't want a history on how a demon, witch and all Others are made. So for example 4 pages on how a witch is made only to ? what the witch looked like who cast a barrier spell was boring. Plus by page 440ish- totally over the back & forth of Jenna's indecision to accept Adam as her mate. By this point the heroine was becoming unlikable. Plus with the length too many parts where Jenna was just Rude and not at all alpha ish. On the plus side I loved the characters. Great character development. Some parts of the story so drawn out it doesn't feel like a romance and Adam only a sub character. Adam gets lost. So by cutting out the hitting me over the head with the creation of the Others, shortening of Jenna's whining about if he likes her for her crap & taking 3-4 pages to describe a building the story was good. The shifter ransom hostage to the tiger I overheard something in Germany to a trip to Germany was a bit much with no rap up was frustrating but when you read the parts of the characters interacting the book is really awesome. Laugh out loud good. So you have a 5 star when the characters are conversing and a 1 star on the amount of boring crap you skim tbrough. Not sure I can take another 700 page book. The ending though when Jenna gets her mate back was fabulous. I guess it comes down to who book 2 is about. Gage, maybe or Alec or Kent would be fun. Logan seems too young but I'll have to see. Hope this rambling helps.

I FREAKING LOVE THIS BOOK!!! It's funny, witty, well written and the mythos behind how shifters, demons, witches and vampires have come into being is so very different from anything else I have ever read! I really liked that there was all of this background data about how they came into being...it made me understand the world that Jenna lives in so much better. Speaking of Jenna, how could anyone not ADORE her??? She's a complete bada** woman! So many of today's female characters are whiny, incapable, brats, that I find myself laughing at them more than I'm routing for them...not so with Jenna! I was thoroughly engaged with her character from the moment I read the the first paragraph. The story was rather open-ended, but I wasn't left with a feeling that it didn't go anywhere. The way it was wrapped up left me begging for more about these characters and the world in which they live.

(myurbanfantasies.blogspot) For everyone thinking Big Bad Bite is an urban fantasy just because Jenna is on a SWAT team, I'm going to save you time and possible disappointment, it's not. The main focus of the story is Jenna and Adam's relationship, with the SWAT team and the extremist shifters as an amazing side story. Jenna O'Conner has lived by one mantra all her life. Stay Hidden. Stay Alive. Her mother and uncles have kept Jenna hidden from the dangerous Other community. Jenna is the child of two different Other species that should not have been able to breed together. In the Others eyes, Jenna should not exist and she's been told they're more than happy to fix that little problem. In the eyes of her father's side of the family Jenna is an abomination, she's simply not good enough for her mother's side. So Jenna plays human, hiding who and what she really is, hoping that it will keep her safe. After living such a sheltered life, Jenna's family finally trusts her to be able to keep her secret hidden on her own and allows Jenna to move to a nearby city so she can take a job with the Wilmington Police Department's SWAT team. Jenna thinks the hardest part of her new life will be that, at the age of twenty-three, she's the youngest member of the SWAT team. She was so wrong. Jeanna's world significantly changes her first day on the job. Her new partner is a demon. As if that was not bad enough, during an arrest Jenna captures the attention of the very sexy Alpha of North Carolina, Adam McPhee. To say that he finds her intriguing would be the understatement of the year. Adam knows Jenna is not a werewolf, like himself, but she's definitely something Other. He's determined to see her again and find out exactly what she is, but mostly Adam wants to claim Jenna for himself. While the Other community consists of the usual suspects; demons, shifters, witches & vampires, their origins are very unique. I love that! It's such a small detail and is usually overlooked, but adds so much to the story. There are, of course, angels and fallen angels. However, there are two different types of demons, Hell-bound demons and earth-born demons. Hell-bound demons are evil monsters that cannot live on the earth's surface. When they escape from Hell they have twenty-four to seventy-two hours to cause outbreaks, murder and mayhem; basically ruining or destroying everything they come into contact with, before they disintegrate. Unfortunately, there are some Hell-bound demons that enjoy raping humans and/or other Others. Earth-born demons are the result of Hell-bound demons raping humans. The child will not look like their demonic sperm donors. Everything about their physical traits will essentially be human, even a human soul, but they do get a genetic boost from the demon DNA. The earth-bound demons mental capabilities will be off the charts, so their powers come from the brain; e.g., telekinesis, telepathy, pyrokinesis, levitation, teleportation, etc. While the sperm donors are evil personified, due to their human souls, earth-born demons, like humans, have the capacity to choose good or evil. Witches are the product of fallen angels and humans. Despite their paternal parentage, a witch is also born with a human soul. Like an earth-born demon, a witch is also given the choice between good or evil. Due to their father's DNA, witches are gifted with the ability to use magic. Vampires are the result of Hell-bound demons raping witches. Th

Wow! This book totally encompasses everything I love in a PNR novel! There is a strong female struggling with a possible mate even tho she wasn't looking for one. Hot, sexy shifters of various types, and even a select other paranormal characters. This write even thought of an amazing storyline other than just the fated mate struggle. Intrigue, mystery, danger, all the things that keep the pages flying by!! Very, totally pleased with this experience! I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Based on reviews I paid 5$ for this book. Too much inner dialouge. Book should have been 150 pages good story line Good charachter developement. But it was to vapid I ended up skipping so many boring parts. I'm not saying you don't havewriting skills but your betas need to be more honest with you or get different betas.

The author put more than werewolves in this story. The main character is a strong female that stays strong even when meeting a possible mate. The author wove demons and other weres in very adroitly. I would not recommend this for under 18 as there are explicit sex scenes and some violence.

I keep reading these reviews saying that the book is 700 pages but my copy is only 258 pages so I guess they edited out the parts people are saying were not necessary? Maybe they will also fix my only problem with the book...it's he LAY down beside me not he lied down beside me! It is never lied and always lay! Lied was used so many times in this book it was distracting! Other than that it was a good book except I hate when they don't solve the conflict in the story.

Jessie Lane is a new author for me .I got this book because it sounded very interesting . When i started reading i found out it was written in first person which i hate.i continued to read since i had also gotten the next book in series. I skipped a lot in the book but continued to read since it was a really good story line. Jessie Lane put a new spin on the paranormal .i did find myself getting more into the book and ended up enjoying it. Just to let you know the second book is not in first person and i am really liking that so far. i will look for more books from this author. if you like paranormal books don't pass up this series.

The book drew me in right away and kept me there throughout. The story of a big, bad alpha and the small but fierce hybrid had me turning pages to see what happened next. I rated it with three stars because 1, the constant change from present to past tense in the first half of the book kept throwing me off my reading groove; 2, the occasional speilling grammar errors; and 3) the sudden, don't-see-it-coming hanging ending. It was good enough, though, that I probaby will buy the 2nd book to see what happens.

Liked this a lot more than I expected to up until the very end. The hard earned HEA felt rushed only to then introduce a new character/situation and then stop?!! This didn't even qualify as a classic cliff-hanger. Would recommend this story but you might not want to start it, until after the series is complete to avoid frustration.
