Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
An illustration of a growling cat on the cover threatens to get the adrenalin going, and scarier yet are the photos within, photos of big cats hunting their prey, having a tasty meal, and fulfilling their duties of part of the food chain. Most chapter titles come in the form of questions, and the intent of the book is to give the reader a treasure trove of information in an interesting and exciting way. The text is accessible to fairly young readers and is balanced by the good use of graphics and color on each page. Sidebars ask "Did you know" and then proceed to dispense a series of facts about the zebra, lion, and cheetah, among others. Published as part of a series, this book lends itself to the student who might have to write about lions, leopards and the like. It contains a page of big-cat facts, as well as a glossary and an index. Part of the "Scary Creatures" series. 2003, Franklin Watts/Scholastic,
