Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Originally issued as a picture book, this smaller board book version also eliminates some of the original text. Fred and Ted are two friends—Fred is big and Ted is little, so now the stage is set. They set out to undertake a variety of tasks that provide comparisons or present opposites. One paints the house red, the other green—one drives fast, the other slow. They finally head off for a mountain vacation and go to a hotel. As kids will see from the pictures, they are assigned the wrong rooms. The big dog gets a small bed and vice versa. With the help of a friendly little bird, they resolve the situation and finally get some much needed sleep. The message at the end while a good one, may go over the heads of the board book readers.

Fred and Ted - A Great Adventure!

Your child will laugh along with Fred and Ted's antics here in Big Dog...Little Dog! This is a book about opposites, but written in story form. The rhythmic patterns are ones your child will be sure to memorize, and they'll be reading to you in no time! This was a favorite in our family's library, and is still being read on the sofa at Grandma's house all the time!

    love, Love, LOVE!

This was one of those children's books that I had from my childhood, where the cover was torn off, the tips of the pages were worn down and it brought back so many sweet memories that I couldn't wait to share it with my niece. Big dog, little dog is such a classic!

    I Also Recommend:

A fun and simple story for reading aloud or sharing with a beginning reader.

P.D. Eastman's familiar dogs and birds are found in this amusing story of Ted and Fred. As usual, the dogs are a little befuddled and the bird is in the know when it comes to problem-solving. I enjoyed the characters as a child and love to read it aloud to children who are almost ready to read. It is also a good story for sharing the reading with a beginner.

    A great story

I loved this book as a child and am here now buying a copy for my daughter. I hope she likes it as much as I did. This book teaches opposites, problem solveing, and that even opposite people (or dogs) can be best of friends.
