Overview

Diane MacEachern's message is simple but revolutionary. The fastest, most effective way to protect the planet is to mobilize the most powerful consumer force in the world-women.

Why? Women spend eighty-five cents of every dollar in the marketplace. As MacEachern explains, when we harness the power of our purse-either by buying less or buying green-manufacturers respond. Whether they're at a clothing outlet, at the grocery store, in the car lot, or online, women have a whole planetful of power. Want to clean up the air and water, stop global warming, defend yourself against dangerous chemicals, and safeguard forests and other natural areas you love? Big Green Purse explains exactly how each one of us can make a difference-through smaller changes or more substantial shifts. With easy-to-follow, specific information throughout, this book: targets twenty-five key commodities where your dollars can have the most impact, provides standards-based guidelines and "thumbs up/thumbs down" ratings to help you make the shift to eco-friendly products, companies, and services, highlights eco-cheap strategies to help you save money but still live and shop green, reveals phony "greenwashing" marketing techniques you'll want to avoid, suggests simple and quick environmental lifestyle changes you can make regardless of how much money you spend. Empowering and enlightening, Big Green Purse offers sensible, time-saving, and immediate strategies for green living that you can incorporate into your life today.

Read This and Help the Planet!

Diane MacEachern gets it: as consumers, we have the power to create a greener world. 'My only disagreement with her is putting the onus of responsibility on women men count, too.' We should support only businesses that take strong measures to ensure that they are not polluting the environment and that they conduct business with humanitarian practices. When corporations do not sell their product they will either change what is offensive, or their business will die. That is the beauty of a capitalist society success is measured by financial strength. And, we as the consumer have the power to influence which companies survive. MacEachern takes time to point out which companies are 'greenwashing' and how to avoid those products. She focuses on the following: Coffee, tea and chocolate Electrical appliances Clothing and assessories Personal care products Household cleaners Transportation The book is empowering because we learn that each of us counts in making the world more environmentally safe. By the author of the award winning book, Harmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify and Energize Your Life, Your Home and Your Planet
