I was excited about reading this book because the movie trailer looks interesting and inspiring. Haven't seen the movie yet, but not sure I like the book. It tends to get off course a bit, telling the history of the town of Barrow and the relationships between politics, the oil industry, Greenpeace, and the Alaskan natives. I think the author included all this to show how odd it was to have all these groups with opposing ideas come together for the good of the whales. Still, I often forgot I was reading a book about a whale rescue. And that's what I wanted to be reading. So now I find myself scanning past parts that don't directly have anything to do with the rescue. (I am only halfway through but am continuing along in order to see the "big miracle" in the end) I do think many people would find the parts I am scanning interesting, but I suppose I was a bit immature in picking a book from a movie trailer. I just wanted the whale rescue.

This book is one of the bet books I have ever read. Ithink that you will love it too. You are bound to find a lot of adventures of trapped whales that cant get out. But soon enough, people in Alaska at frigid cold temperatures, try to rescue these whales from all this harm. I hope you like it :)!!!!!!!

This is an awesome book. Depending on where you fall in the spectrum of animal activist, there may be parts that give you a bit of frustration. Nonetheless, the book is very informative and brings to life the actions taken in Alaska regarding these whales. The story is true and is amazing how the whales changed the lives of so many people. The store also shows how the media can set off on very crazy tangents!
