Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Karen McCoy
This book is comprised of a series of vignettes that provide a glimpse into Nate's interactions with his friends at school and in the neighborhood. Nate's intentions are usually misguided, and his plans often backfire. When he is not drawing comics, giving wedgies, or eating cheez doodles, he usually finds himself in various kinds of trouble—and often ends up in detention. Nate thinks he knows best, but his friends aren't afraid to keep him in line when his schemes stretch out of bounds—including when they play baseball, basketball, or monopoly, and especially when he tries to convince them to brainstorm a nickname for him. Bookish Francis bests him at most things, but does not hold it over Nate's head (unless Nate insults him first). When Nate joins a peer counselor program, he has no concept of what his role might be—but even though he does not learn what his facilitator intends, his efforts offer a good example for students looking to resolve conflict among themselves. Though some parents may be put off by Nate's antics, and some of his motivations do not always ring true, children will appreciate the relatable dialogue (especially in Nate's rants against teachers). Fans of the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series and followers of the original "Big Nate" comic strip (first published in 1991) will likely enjoy this newest installment. Reviewer: Karen McCoy

Can't read on NOOK Classic or NOOK Simple Touch

Can't read it on Nook classic or Nook Simple Touch. Can read it in the Nook Reader on a Windows PC though. Haven't tried to read it on the Nook Tablet yet. Looks like the pages coming up blank are in a different format than the few pages that are visible. Looks like the book needs reformatting in order to make it compatible with the Nook Classic and Nook Simple Touch.

    Bad

I was excited to try out my new nook along with one of my favorite authors. It was bad because it kept getting stuck on page five. And it only had eleven pages! I want my money back.
