In the tradition of the popular "Big Nate" comic strip and the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series, this is a lively and entertaining mix of humor, life lessons, artwork, and education. Sixth grader Nate is interested in two things: winning the school fleeceball tournament and steering clear of Gina, the brainiac of the class. Naturally, Gina ends up on his fleeceball team and becomes his partner for a history project. She also manages to get the team named the Kuddle Kittens, when Nate plans to name the team the Psycho Dogs. Nate and Gina are assigned to do a report about Benjamin Franklin and Nate, despite his vow to not learn anything, is fascinated by Franklin's accomplishments, especially his political cartoons and Poor Richard's Almanack. Nate and Gina end up helping each other out whether they intend to or not. In addition to the wonderful illustrations and fast paced story, the author includes puzzles, historical facts, and a how-to-draw lesson. Reviewer: Sue Poduska

Fresh from his daily comic strip, sixth grader Nate Wright returns for another novel-length adventure (Big Nate: In a Class By Himself, 2010). He must endure both being partnered with overly perfect Gina on a social-studies project AND her playing on the intramural fleeceball team he captains. To make matters worse, Nate missed the deadline to submit the name of his team to Coach, and Gina submitted "Kuddle Kittens" for him. Total embarrassment! Gina messes up the team's first game, and she fears Nate will mess up her A+ average. The two strike a deal: He'll let her do the report on Ben Franklin alone, and she'll bow out of future fleeceball games. Nate may think he's got the bases covered...but he can't seem to learn that his plans never quite work out. Peirce's second Big Nate tale is even more stuffed with Nate's own comics than his first, including a couple "Poor Nate's Almanacks" and his goofy imaginings in "true" life comix. A latter-day Peanuts and a kinder, gentler Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Fans will be in heaven; thank goodness number three is already on the way. (Graphic hybrid/fiction. 7-11)

    I think you should read Big Nate because it is the funniest book. Big Nate is a good book for the people that like diary of a wimpy kid. If you like funny books you should read Big Nate. I like big nate because it is funny and there is action. If you like funny books this is the book for you.

    Kids Review - Awesome

    The whole Big Nate series is fun, funny and what kids doesn't like a comic book. It is as good as Diary of a Wimpy Kid and my new favorite the Defense of Thaddeus Ledbetter. A great Christmas gift. I have this one; but, have asked for I Smell A Pop Quiz on my Christmas list. Nate has two buddies that are along for a laugh and often at his expense. And guess what? There is some girl trouble that really makes thiings interesting. The girl in this story is his archenemy Gina. Nate and Gina work together for a report on Ben Franklin, and that works out pretty good. But when they get paired up for a sports team Gina has the nerve to name the team without the okay from her team captain, Big Nate. You will LOVE IT!!!! Tex

    NOT FOR NOOK HD (no PagePerfect, i.e. graphically enhanced, book

    NOT FOR NOOK HD (no PagePerfect, i.e. graphically enhanced, books are).  
    They don't tell you this when you purchase a NOOK HD - which is the updated version of the Nook Color.

    The newest reader gets fewer compatible books, and none with enhanced graphics!  Nice.
