If you're a beginning Spanish student, learning 555 Spanish verbs might sound intimidating, but I found that this book actually teaches you how to properly conjugate different types of verbs, and the complete listing of fully conjugated verbs serves more as a reference tool. Essentially, once you work through the five or so pages of verb exercises, the rest of the book is laid out in an organized fashion and tells you which verbs are regular or irregular. The authors also give detailed explanations of all the verb tenses (which can be confusing at times), and the lessons really clarify any questions you might have about their usage. They also mention spelling changes, and they give you a handy list of the top fifty verbs -- probably the most important part of the book for a beginner! When you learn a specific verb conjugation, the book gives you some great examples so you can learn how the word is actually used in spoken language (even some everyday colloquialisms). Once you've learned the basic verb conjugations, you'll probably need help with pronunciation (I know I did). That's why I also suggest using the Learning Spanish Like Crazy audio CDs with this book because the audio course focuses not only on teaching you the technical aspects of the language but also all the subtle nuances of speaking with an authentic and modern Latin American accent. Definitely add this book to your Spanish-language bookshelf.

The Big red book is simply one of the most outstanding resources I have seen, both for learning and maintaining your speaking ability. It is well-rounded and complete, as well as easy to use. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn a second language.

The Big Red Book of Spanish Verbs is extremely thorough and user-friendly. With 555 fully conjugated verbs and an index of more than 2,300 verbs, it's the most complete verb book on the market. It makes all the tenses readily accessible, and I'm learning a lot of vocabulary and expressions that improve my reading and speaking. The Big Red Book of Spanish Verbs helped me pass my language exam for a graduate degree in history. I need to take a French exam next and hope there will be a French verb book in the series.

In my spanish class we were doing varios Sujuntivos and Imperativos(commands). Big Red doesn't have any imperativo's. 555 verbs without imperativos, what a waste of money Big Red was. The Baron's 501 verbs does have the imperativos. Less verbs but more complete.

I use the Baron's 300 verbs while on the go(it's compact). However, since I write E mails in Spanish every week, I like the 555 verbs while at home. Easy to find the words and conjugation that I 'm looking for. Even gives usuage if I don't fully know in what context I need to use because some words just don't translate well.
