Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This poetic story is about Little Mouse, a cute creature who is preparing for her birthday party to be held in one week. Each day Little Mouse cleans the house, gathers food, and decorates, always eagerly anticipating the party. The writer skillfully combines her use of rhythmic poetry with many opposites throughout: "Balloons are fat. Balloons are thin. She takes some out and leaves some in." Young readers will probably relate to Little Mouse's week, as so many children look forward to weekends for any number of reasons. The creative artwork makes a nice accompaniment to the story—the talented illustrator's mother wrote this book, so it makes sense that the words and pictures would flow so well together. The colorful, 3-D images are made with molded clay into delightful scenes of Little Mouse's exciting week. They are sure to inspire children to take art to a level beyond coloring to sculpting with play dough. The combination of this artwork with the story makes this book a winner. 2004, Kids Can Press, Ages 2 to 5.
