Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
What are the advantages of being large or little? Find out some of the interest facts about animals that deal with size. Take a look at the size of the mouth of a gulper eel or a whale shark. There are fabulous color photographs that show a large variety of animals. Readers may enjoy the information on the "Actual Size" sidebars which describe the creature and include a life-size photograph of it next to a picture of a tape measure. There are "Record Breaker" sidebars that reveal information about the tallest animal, biggest owl, and largest animal structure, to name a few, although some of these sidebars ("Scariest Reptile" and "Loudest Land Animal") seem unrelated to the theme of size animal. A glossary is located at the back of the book with words that are in bold print in the main text. For those students interested in a specific animal, the index may be helpful. There is a list of suggested ideas and activities for parents, caregivers, and teachers to utilize when supporting and extending children's learning and understanding. This book is part of the "Animal Opposites" series with interesting information including great photographs about animal characteristics. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
