To: Female Baby Boomers Cc: Young women who may grow old one day Subject: The Joy of Life

Dearest Baby Boomers and Future Bifocal Wearers,

Are you old enough to need bifocals, but young enough to deny it?

Are you tired of exercise programs that leave you . . . tired?

Are you weary of self-help books that expect you to change your evil ways?

Do you consider sloth a virtue you'd like to pursue?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, the attached book is for you.

Bikini Is a State of Mind gives you magical advice on the joy of wearing nothing but a bikini and a smile, even if you have reached an age when a muumuu might be more appropriate. Buy the book, curl up in a lounge chair beside the pool, and get into the best shape of your life.

Respectfully yours,

This book centers on five fifty-something women who form the Bikini Team in Davidson, North Carolina. During the summer, the women meet at the local Swimming Hole clad in bikinis. At other times of year, they gather together for parties, retreats, and social outings, usually wearing a little more than bikinis.

At the heart of the book lies the metaphor of wearing bikinis in middle age. This small concept is the seed of something much larger-a holistic approach to aging without giving up edginess and attractiveness. This is a book by, for, and about women who, although aging, still take care of themselves; still relish dressing up, down, and scantily; and still turn heads. Their bodies are not what they used to be. But their spirit, camaraderie, and flair make a statement that others read as stylish, free, and lots of fun. They want to spread theword.

    For All Women

The book's premise--that women who are entering the 'middle' of life can (and should) still be fun, sexy, and confident enough to bare their bodies in bikinis--might make some think that they don't need to read it unless they're in the authors' age range. Nothing could be more wrong. A friend and I--both 22 year olds--bought the book together and read it out loud to each other on a road trip...I can honestly say that I have never had a more enjoyable travel experience, largely due to the book-induced laughter. These women are funny, apt, and write about living life with such joie de vivre that the two of us immediately began making plans to start our own bikini team. Women, young and old, will immediately find themselves nodding their heads over something they've thought, but never managed to express as eloquently as these women. And if you're a 'younger' woman I guarantee you'll want to hang on to this book and turn to it again and again when you're trying to remember that getting older only means having more fun.

    Absolutely hilarious!

Read this book straight through (which I did in one quick sitting) or just open to any page and start reading aloud to your husband or friends. Laughter is guaranteed¿page after page¿even when reading the recipes!

    Irresistibly funny. What a hoot!

This tongue-in-cheek ¿how to¿ is quite possibly the funniest & most inspired book of all time and is most definitely a must-read for every woman. Here is a feisty group of women (of spirit & style & strength), who rely on friendship, revel in femininity, and celebrate life with panache--or, at least, with a splash. The ¿Bikini Team¿ makes 50-something enviable. Definitely check it out!
