Overview

Bill Cosby Himself, the soundtrack to the movie of the same name, features such classic Cosby routines as "The Dentist," "Natural Childbirth," and "Same Thing Happens Every Night." Without the visual distraction of Cosby's mugging -- which is either charming or clichéd, depending on your point of view -- his total mastery of his art comes into sharper focus. Himself chronicles a professional comedian at the top of his game, toying with structure, timing, and tone, holding his audience with absolute confidence. Times have changed, though; it might be hard to get away with the many references to corporal punishment in the 21st century, and mentions of Cosby's son Ennis can't help but bring to mind his tragic death, bringing a bittersweet quality to some moments on Himself.

This has to be the funniest of all his performances because each piece is hilarious especially the ones to do with marriage, kids, and family, because that's how things really are and are perceived. I cry with almost each routine. Thanks, Bill.

Typical Cosby, great material, impeccable timing and rips on his own family (again). Everything flows perfectly (wife, kids and home life) no weird change ups in subject. No profanity but still hilarious (I don't think he's ever used profanity in any of his material, way to go Mr. Cosby! Can it get any better? Yes, it could be longer (that's why ''only'' 4.75 stars).

This is Bill Cosby at his funniest! Every bit on this album is achingly funny. Bill is the premier "family" comedian. He takes everyday family issues and turns them into some of the best laughs you'll ever have!

SAT 17 DEC: 2005 THIS ALBUM COULD VERY WELL BE CALLED "THAT'S LIFE". HE HAS TAKEN EVERYDAY EVENTS OF A FAMILY AND CAME UP WITH THE FUNNIEST WAY OF EXPLAINING THEM. THE "NO PROFANITY" THAT SO MANY TALK OF, JUST SPELLS "CLASS"!!!,,, AS HE'S ALWAYS DONE. GREAT FAMILY ALBUM!! SOME FOLKS MIGHT RELATE TO THIS, RECALLING THEIR UP-BRINGING, BUT,,,,,IF YOU ARE MARRIED, & HAVE KIDS, THIS ALBUM IS A MUST FOR YOU! WITH THE ISSUE/RELEASE DATE BEING 1982, AS YOU WILL SEE, THE MATERIAL COVERED IN THIS ONE IS TIMELESS!!! THANK-YOU FOR ANOTHER OUTSTANDING PIECE OF WORK, MR. COSBY !!!

I was very young when I first heard this album. Throughout my teen years, I listened to it and laughed every time. I had just recently bought the album and listened to it in its entirity for the first time in almost 15 years and I am STILL in the floor as I was in my teen years. Something everyone can relate to... especially parents!!! If given the choice of one comedy album, Himself would have to be the one!!!
