These books are great collector's items that most all children will cherish for years. The stories are interesting and the drawings very realistic. They really come in handy too when a child has to stay quiet on sick days.

As a daydreaming horse lover as a kid, and still as an adult, these books were perfect! Twenty years later, and I still remember the great illustrations and the good feeling I got from reading those books. There's something about those illustrations that I really love. I'm extremely happy they are still available!

My first grader is reading through this series aloud with me. The stories follow a boy named Billy and his pony, Blaze, as they ride trails and explore the fields and forests around his house. They meet up with all sorts of adventures. After introducing my daughter to the first in the series, Billy & Blaze, she has begged for more ever since! The text is more advanced than the Dr. Seuss books but the exciting stories motivate her to keep reading beyond the required fifteen minutes. At first, we checked the books out from the library but she is so attached to them that we've begun purchasing the titles. I hope she will have the opportunity to share these with her children one day! The pencil sketches are wonderful too.

I am now a 30 year old mom. My young daughter is crazy about horses. It sparked a memory of a set of books I loved so much as a girl. When I was young,I had checked out the book Billy & Blaze at the library so many times, I probably had it memorized. I wanted to have a horse like Blaze & ride everywhere like Billy did. It sparked a lot of imagination in me, and I loved the book! Now I can pass that love on to my daughter.

I am now 27 years old, and have not forgotten the Billy and Blaze books. I fully intend on buying them for when I have children so that my children can know the joy of reading them. I too used to check them out from the library, time after time.

I am 14 years old, and these books were among the first i checked out from my school library. In kindergarten thru second grade, I checked them out dozens of times, until I practically new the stories by heart. I am glad to see them re-published!

charming story with simple but eciting text Billy is a young boy who "loved horses more than anything else in the world." He learns how to ride using some neighbor farmer’s work horse and pretending that it is a prancing pony. One day he gets his very own beautiful bay pony for his birthday and names it Blaze because of the white streak down its face. Billy and Blaze go riding through the fields and woods. Billy rescues a dog from a trap, names it Rex and, since the owner could not be found, keeps it for a pet. Billy and Blaze learn to jump over fences and fallen trees with ease, but are they good enough to win the gleaming silver cup at the Mason Horse Show? This charming story is the first book in the classic Billy and Blaze series. Author and illustrator Clarence William Anderson (1891–1971) is best-known for his "Billy and Blaze" books which revolve around proper care of the horse while teaching a valuable lesson. All of the tales which Anderson wrote were based on true events or people that he knew--only the plots were fictitious. The Billy and Blaze stories are enjoyable, and the lively black and white illustrations are incredibly beautiful and realistic. There are a total of eleven books about Billy and his horse. Unfortunately, not all of them are in print. Aladdin publishes a set that includes eight of them. With their simple but exciting text and emphasis on kind treatment to animals, they would make excellent early readers for children in second to fourth grades.

This was one of my favorite books as a kid and I recommend it for any kids that love horses and adventure.
