I'm taking AP Bio this year, and so far, I can grasp almost everything the book coves. That's really good for someone who has no skills in Science and plans on majoring in English! The book takes time to read, but reading helps you better understand the material. Be patient and go for it!
This is simply the most concise and excellent book for students of biology available. High school and college students alike can appreciate it. I used this book (in its fifth edition) in my AP biology course, and continued using it throughout college. Having studied under Dr. Campbell and his colleagues, one can truly appreciate the simplicity of the book. There truly is no other option!
The text is all jumbled together. I cannot understand this mess of biology. I believe the book needs better organization because it seems to jump around a lot. It leaves a hole in my head.
I used the Sixth Edition in AP Bio, and now that I'm taking 100-level biology class at a University, I'm very happy that I kept it! It's extremely detailed and very clear- it fills in the conceptual gaps left by other Biology textbooks, such as Freeman's textbook.
I LOVED the 6th edition, and now that the 7th is out, I'm excited. I skimmed through some of the chapters of this book, and the organization seems a little different, but easier to understand. All I've got to say is, Campbell might as well be referred to as the Holy Biowriter. Oh man.
