Purpose: The objective is to provide a broad but thorough understanding of the basic principles of biomechanics in sport and exercise. The book presents a brief historical context for this area of study and transitions to the current state of the science.
Audience: Although aimed primarily at undergraduate students interested in learning what biomechanics is and how it can be applied to sport and exercise, this book also can be useful to health and fitness practitioners interested in better understanding how biomechanics works and its application in their profession.
Features: The book requires readers to have some familiarity with the exercise sciences, but engenders a great deal of learning as they progress through it. It also includes access to educational software with audio/video clips of human motion analysis as it pertains to understanding biomechanics.
Assessment: This is an excellent, comprehensive book for college-level students learning the essentials of biomechanics, but it is also suitable for health and fitness professionals. The author and contributors are respected scientists in their fields of study and contribute a great deal of expertise to this book.
