This 10th edition of Biostatistics: A Foundation for Analysis in the Health Sciences should appeal to the same audience for which the first nine editions were written: advanced undergraduate students, beginning graduate students, and health professionals in need of a reference book on statistical methodology. Like its predecessors, this edition requires few mathematical prerequisites. Only reasonable proficiency in algebra is required for an understanding of the concepts and methods underlying the calculations. The emphasis continues to be on an intuitive understanding of principles rather than an understanding based on mathematical sophistication. For most of the statistical techniques covered in this edition, we discuss the capabilities of one or more software packages (MINITAB, SAS, SPSS, and NCSS) that may be used to perform the calculations needed for their application. Resulting screen displays are also shown.

Editorial Reviews

Suitable for graduate and advanced undergraduate students, as well as health professionals seeking a reference on statistical methodology, this text requires only modest proficiency in algebra. Coverage includes descriptive statistics, the foundations of statistical inference, and inferential statistics. New topics to this edition include inter quartile range, Bayes's theorem, screening tests, resistant line (Tukey's line), and survival analysis. In addition, real data is more extensively used to illustrate concepts and information intended for students using calculators has been deleted. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.

    Great content. Book falls apart.

I am two months into course and book is very clear and well written. I'm not especially rough on books, but I did drop this book once. It is already coming apart. The cover is detached from the spine and front. Cost alot should not fall apart.

don't be deceived by the etextbook version

you CANNOT view it on your nook. you can only view it on your PC or MAC. note to self! I'm sure it will be fine on the computer but I was hoping that it would work on the Nook and up to current, there is no compatibility.
