Overview

New York Times bestselling author Katie MacAlister's long out-of-print contemporary romantic comedy novella, Bird of Paradise, is once again available.

Take one mysterious man who isn't what he seems, add in his monstrously large cat, finish with a body-image-challenged heroine named Hero, and you get Bird of Paradise, a novella featuring Adam the private detective, Hero the undercover journalist, and Jesus the cat, who may or may not be depressed over his neutering.

Eden just isn't a garden; it's also a reality TV show bent on pairing up single contestants. Trapped under false pretenses on an exotic island named Mystique, Hero tries desperately to stay focused on her job and ignore the increasingly tempting Adam, but not even this modern-day Garden of Eden is perfect, and sooner or later, she has to admit the truth: he might not be perfection itself, but he sure makes her life a paradise.

Note: this novella was originally published in the Heat Wave anthology in 2003.

Meet the Author

For as long as she can remember, Katie MacAlister has loved reading. Growing up in a family where a weekly visit to the library was a given, Katie spent much of her time with her nose buried in a book. Despite her love for novels, she didn’t think of writing them until she was contracted to write a non-fiction book about software. Since her editor refused to allow her to include either witty dialogue or love scenes in the software book, Katie swiftly resolved to switch to fiction, where she could indulge in world building, tormenting characters, and falling madly in love with all her heroes.

Two years after she started writing novels, Katie sold her first romance, Noble Intentions. More than thirty books later, her novels have been translated into numerous languages, been recorded as audiobooks, received several awards, and are regulars on the New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. She also writes for the young adult audience as Katie Maxwell.

Katie lives in the Pacific Northwest, and can often be found lurking around online.

Bird of Paradise by Katie MacAlister This story first appeared in the Heat Wave anthology which I haven’t read. Due to the wonderful new world of self-publishing Ms. MacAlister was able to release this story solo. The very first Katie MacAlister book I ever read was The Corset Diaries. I laughed till I cried and I still re-read it on occasion. Bird of Paradise is a lot like The Corset Diaries and I loved it for the same reasons. Oversized journalist named Hero is headed undercover to an island for a dating game show. She hopes to get a story and revive her flagging career. There she meets a man and his unusual cat. Private investigator Adam is posing as radio sex-therapist Monday Marsh to keep an eye on one of the contestants for her stalker ex. The chemistry is instantaneous but they will have to overcome Hero’s body issues and Adams job. There are so many things wrong with this story and yet I still loved it. Check your brain at the door and enjoy.

Not her best book. The girl was really annoying. I would not waste my money on this one. Her other books are great.
