Editorial Reviews

Charlotte Parent
All information is presented in color photos with easy-to-understand captions, virtually guaranteeing they'll be read cover to cover.
Children's Literature - Beverly Kobrin
This is one of the outstanding "ASPCA Pet Care Guides for Kids" that helps them become caring and responsible pet owners. Youngsters learn about their pet's physical characteristics and how to select one as a per. They're told what equipment they'll need and how to house, feed, clean, and keep their pet healthy. And they're provided a checklist of weekly and yearly responsibilities. Among the other titles in the series are Puppy, Kitten, Rabbit, Hamster, Fish and Guinea Pigs.
School Library Journal
Gr 2-5-- Attractive, informative pet-care guides. The ``how to'' format includes almost everything children need to know about feeding and caring for their birds, fish, or hamsters: cleaning the cage or tank, supplies needed, and handling the animals. The bright, full-color photos show multiethnic children caring for their animals. Lots of white space in the background make the step-by-step text easy to follow. While the text is less detailed than Annette Wolter's Parakeets (Barron's, 1978) and the Silversteins' Hamsters (Lothrop, 1974), the colorful pictures in Evans's books make them worthwhile purchases. These three well-organized handbooks will be useful in any collection. --Janet M. Bair, Trumbull Library, CT
