Stan Tekiela, a naturalist and author, columnist and radio personality has put together a great little field guide called Birds of Florida. If you are a bird watcher you should have this book.
The "Birds of Florida" field guide is a small book, about 4/1/2" by 6", just the right size to slip in the pocket of your jeans. Every page has beautiful, full- color photographs of Florida birds, There are 140 species of only Florida birds in this little book It contains an easy to use color guide so-thit- if you see a yellow bird you just go to the yellow-bird section to identify it.
Bird Watching is the largest spectator sport in America. This little field guide will help you identify and learn about most any bird you happen to see in the state. More than 480 different species have been, recorded in Florida. Tekiela has included the species most commonly seen. Florida is one of the best places in the country to observe birds. The weather and water are the main things that attract so many birds to this state.
The book also includes tips on bird watching, how to identify different birds, what to look for to tell one bird from another. It contains information on birds habits, nest building and range maps. It gives the novice information on bird basics, the parts of a bird that will-help you identify them.
Whether your a beginrier, a bird-watcher wanna-be, or simply curious about some pesky bird that is showing up in your back yard, you will enjoy this book. The photographs are all of live birds, except the female indigo bunting so they are authentic.
Stan Tekiela writes a syndicated nature column and appears on a syndicated nature radio show. He has authored other books, including "Nature Smart," "Start Mushrooming" and "Plantworks."

Meet the Author

Naturalist, wildlife photographer and writer Stan Tekiela is the originator of the popular state-specific field guides such as Mammals of Minnesota Field Guide. For over two decades, Stan has authored more than 100 field guides, nature appreciation books and wildlife audio CDs for nearly every state in the nation, presenting many species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, trees, wildflowers and cacti. Holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural History from the University of Minnesota and as an active professional naturalist for more than 20 years, Stan studies and photographs wildlife throughout the United States and has received various national and regional awards for his books and photographs. Also a well-known columnist and radio personality, his syndicated column appears in over 20 newspapers and his wildlife programs are broadcast on a number of Midwest radio stations. He is a member of the North American Nature Photography Association and Canon Professional Services. Stan resides in Victoria, Minnesota, with his wife, Katherine, and daughter, Abigail.     Easy to take with you!

    Nice pictures and presentations of each bird. CD with the book is a very good combination.
