Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Carrie Hane Hung
Eggs, vertebrate, feathers, and warm-blooded are just a few of the characteristics of this group of animals, birds. Read to learn general information about this classification of animals. There are full-page, color illustrations of different birds; labels identify the different species. Insets provide additional facts about the birds. Toward the end of the book is an example showing the Linnaeus animal classification system. Turn to the section on "Extreme Birds" to find out which bird is the smallest, largest, or fastest along with which bird has the longest wingspan, migration, or feathers. There is a glossary; the words in the glossary are not differentiated in the main text. To read and explore more information about birds, there is a list of additional books along with the FactHound internet site. Those students who are studying the other animal groups may find the other books in the "Amazing Science: Animal Classification" series helpful to learn about the characteristics of amphibians, fish, insects, mammals, and reptiles. The books in the series follow a similar format. Reviewer: Carrie Hane Hung
