***EXCERPT***

“It really is your birthday,” he said, a question in his tone, but not the words.

“Yes. Thirty as of eight this morning.” I refused to be one of those women who lied about her age. I may not like getting older, but I wouldn’t let it turn me into a harpy clinging to long gone youth. I was thirty. I’d worked hard to make it through those years, and I wasn’t going to deny a single one of them.

“When you said you wanted to work on your birthday wish list, I thought you meant it metaphorically, not literally.” He led me smoothly through a song change. He was so comfortable on his feet I couldn’t help but wonder what it would take to unravel him just a bit.

“Nope, no metaphors here.”

“Had I known, I would have wrapped the package a little better.”

I looked at his crotch reflexively and pictured his cock with a ribbon and bow tied around it. “It’s not too late, you know.”

He placed a finger under my chin and tipped my head up. “Your mom is watching us.” He was totally laughing at me. Busted checking out my date’s goods by my mom. Unfortunately, my eyes needed to stay above the waist for the rest of the evening.

“Fabulous. One more thing for her to ask about.”

“I created family problems by coming here?”

“Problem is too strong a word, but since my divorce. . .” I let the sentence hang. How could I explain my mom’s interest without making her look like a pushy nut job? In fairness, she was a little bit of a nut job, but I think that was just my biological clock ticking. I couldn’t hear it yet, but somehow it’d tapped into my mom’s system instead of mine. Children were not high on my list of concerns, but grandchildren topped hers.

“Until your brother explained, I thought you were the one who gave me the address.”

“I figured. Ricky likes to play. He didn’t mean any harm.” I gave my baby brother a raft of shit at any available opportunity, but just like any older sister, I’d be damned if I let someone else judge him harshly. It was my job to defend.

“He cares about you.”

“Mmm.” What else could I say? Admitting we liked one another is not something Ricky and I would ever do willingly. “You should tell me something about yourself,” I said, “like what you do for a living.” My mom was going to ask and I couldn’t just say "I don’t know, Mom. I want to fuck him, not marry him."

Review: The List #1: Birthday Wishes

Birthday Wishes by Braxton Cole is a novella length tale about losing inhibitions, exploring sexuality, and falling in love completely in spite of yourself.

Mari is getting past her divorce and just wants to enjoy herself, quite literally. Luca is a charismatic, sculpted, and open man who also wants to explore and enjoy. The two meet through an adult website. They get to know more about each other in terms of secret desires and their bedroom (*or elsewhere*) bucket lists.

What happens when the agreement to help each other work on their lists and keep emotions out of it begins to weaken? Hmmmm...

For a novella this was very well paced and SUPER steamy.

    3.5 Stars

What do you do when you are turning 30, you are not only single but divorced, and you haven’t had sex in what feels like forever? Well if you are Mari, you set up a meeting with the sexy booty call you met online.

Birthday Wishes introduces us to Mari, a strong independent business owner whose only problem is her need for sexual release and disinterest in the dating world. Though she does not want to place herself back into the world of dating her needs as a woman overpower her and she finds herself turning to the online world to find someone who is only looking for a sexual relationship and who will fulfill her sexual fantasies without the awkwardness of having to date.

She is on her way to her tryst when she is sidetracked with a surprise birthday party by her best friend and entire family. A twist of fate results in Luca her tall and absolutely gorgeous booty call coming to her party her thoughts race with what they could do (more like what he could do to her) then she is brought back to the present the picture she is seeing was never supposed to happen. Their relationship was supposed to be just sex and now here he stands surrounded by her family being questioned by her mother. When they are finally able to leave they continue with their plans and she is rewarded with the most amazing sex of her life.

Mari and Luca continue their sexual relationship but things become complicated when the need for more than just sex is brought up. Can Mari handle dating again? Can she give up Luca? Or can she continue their arrangement knowing one wants more? Although Birthday Wishes progresses somewhat slowly and some of the plot seems a little familiar you will find yourself captivated with the relationship between Luca and Mari and just when you think they’re headed somewhere good you read the words THE END!!!!! You are left with a need for more of them and a need to know more about our Luca. I am looking forward to reading more about their relationship, and more importantly more about Luca.

I received a free copy of this book for my honest review. So here it is! This book is quite a Bang for Your Buck! Now Romancers, I don't know about you....but I don't care how many pages a book has as long as it has a great story. Birthday Wishes has about 97 pages. Honey let me tell you....those are some juicy pages!

Mari, finds Luca online and they decide to start a relationship of convenience. That is soon derailed when her brother invites Luca to Mari's surprise birthday party. Mari and Luca have a list of things they would like to try sexually and they decide to start "kinky sex kindergarten" together! I loved that line!

If you like a light and cute; yet very steamy romance book then give this book a try! It has a lot of bang for your buck!

This is the 2nd book of Braxton's that I read. It is a short novella. But still good.

    Hawt and steamy.
Mari and Lucas, Lucas and Mari!! where to begin and where to end.

Mari and Lucas met on the internet with 1 purpose in mind SEX. I must add hot steamy sex too. They both made a list together of sex acts they would like to do together. No strings attached just sex. I mean who don't want something like that when your not looking for a relationship?

My favorite part or parts and OMG they were freaking fantastic. Lucas and Mari go to a hotel. It is her birthday and they are both naked. He has her facing the door/wall and he grinding her but between her legs. He says LOOK!!! OMG hot!! the other part is when they used the silver balls. This scene was WAY better than what I read in 50 shades of grey sorry to say.

Lucas is ready to take the next step with Mari but is Mari ready?? we will have to find out in All Wrapped Up. I can't freaking wait.

All I can say is if Mari dont want Luca I will take him!! What start as a sorta kinda but not really friends with benefits to complete a sex list turns into maybe we can be friends on the weekends but thats all. I say sorta kinda but not really FWB because they met online...on a "hook- up" site but they have to act like friends so no one knows what really going on. Not that I know anything about this kind of situation ;) but it can get pretty hot hot hot hot! Cant wait to see what else is on their list!!!

I absolutely loved this novella! Braxton Cole is one bad biyotch

I absolutely loved this novella! Braxton Cole is one bad biyotch! Usually in an erotic novella I feel like the plot is rushed, the dialogue is bad and unbelievable, and the characters are flat. And I always feel sort of embarrassed that I'm reading it because it's written just like a straight up trashy, bad, porno. There's no story, nothing to sink your teeth into - just bad dialogue and then vulgar, explicit sex. Birthday Wishes is the exact opposite of everything I mentioned above.

Even though it is a novella, everything in the story is well-paced, and the writing is super tight so not one word goes to waste. Every sentence has intention and purpose behind it, and it all works towards driving the story. The main characters, Mira and Luca, are well developed and their personalities are dynamic and breathing on the page, instead of being flat and lifeless. Braxton had me laughing out loud with some of the internal monologues that goes on in Mira's head, and Luca was just so damn sexy and commanding during the sex scenes that I wanted to melt. As just a sample, here are a few of my favorite lines from the book:

"His hair was longer than shown on his online profile picture, and the ends curled around his ears. It was too long to be short, but too short to be long, stuck in that unruly middle stage. It was perfectly tuggable and I wanted nothing more than to run my hands through it, grab a fist full, and ride his face until I came."

"All I knew about him could be summed up in one sentence: He was too beautiful for words, he had a smile that inspired me to do very naughty things, and he was hard for me when we arrived here an hour ago."

And as the icing on the cake, I actually was really in love with the whole idea behind the story line. I would have still been a fan just because of the exceptional writing and the hot sex scenes, but the plot just sucked me right in. Luca and Marie met online through a sex site where people go to find sex partners - no strings attached. They have been exchanging e-mails back and forth for a while, detailing their rules and boundaries, and swapping their sexual fantasy lists. Birthday Wishes starts with the first time they are going to actually meet each other in person and start working on those lists!

I could tell by the way that Mari and Luca interacted immediately that they were not going to be able to pull off the casual sex routine. Their attraction was too intense, and Luca was just so dang sweet and considerate and perfect, that it would have been a shame had they not developed feelings for each other. I can only hope that their relationship grows into something real in book two, which I can't wait to go read immediately!

As in Blown, we do not get a sappy heroine who needs a man to change her. Instead we get a screwed up girl (while also being realistic and likable) who wants sex on her terms, and the guy who might just be able to satisfy her. I loved it. Looking forward to part 2!

Loved it! Luca is perrrrrrrfect! If I ever become a divorcé like Mari, I'm going to wish for my very own Luca. Lol. Mari has a difficult time letting him get close, since she wanted a strictly sexual relationship, but Luca is just too damn sexy and sweet to not let him in and chip away at the wall she put up after her divorce. I definitely CANNOT wait to see where their relationship goes in the next installment in the series. :)
