    more from this reviewer

    Great reimagining of a classic!

Mark Waid has always had such a good grasp of what makes Superman and Clark Kent cool. Here he reinvents one of the most classic origins of all time and does it really well. The art by Leinil Francis Yu is very good, however I'm still not sure its a good fit with Superman. The dark sketchiness doesn't always mesh well with Metropolis and Smallville. Waid's Luthor is ne of the best and I think this would make a really good animated movie. Overall, really good stuff!

The Ultimate in Superman Origin Stories

Quite a few years ago DC Comics set out to re-introduce people to the origin of Superman. The last time this had been done was with John Byrne in the 80's, and a lot has been changed since then.

This book is perhaps one of the best introductions to Superman a person can ask for. Yu's artwork is OUTSTANDING, and the story is amazingly well written.

Instead of just a little recap of what we already know, this book takes the time to really get to know and understand Clark Kent and Superman, and really delves into what motivated Clark into making the decisions that made him into the Superman we all know and love.

This is THE PERFECT place for any new comic reader to get into Superman, as no other origin can match up to it.

Heck, even Geoff Johns is in the process of re-doing the Superman Origins, which seems like it does more to establish some current continuity facts as opposed to telling a deeply involved story like Birthright did.

A Fresh Retelling of Superman's Origins

Superman: Birthright, a 12-issue limited series about the beginnings of the Man of Steel, is a great revamping of the Superman tale. It makes one read with new fervor and interest into the origins of one of our most famous superheroes. I highly recommend it for the collection of any fan of Superman.
