This novella reminds me why I love Shawntelle's Madison's writing so much. It pulled me in, and I couldn't put it down until I found out how it ended. It was pretty steamy. I could feel the chemistry between Kyle and Emma.  I rooted for them until the very end. My only complaint is similar to all my complaints about novella I love. I wish it was longer! lol I am not sure if Shawntelle plans on doing anything more with Emma and Kyle's character or if this is it, but I definitely plan to find out!! Definitely take the time to check it out. It is only 99 cents.

This novella turned out to be a really hard one for me to rate. While the writing voice in this story was very strong. Nothing about the characters reached out to me and pulled me in. For the most part I search for unique and sexy shifter stories. When I saw one that looked unique I grabbed up this one.

However, there was something about it that just didn't quite reach out to me as a reader. The characters, although flushed out and sound in their personalities and reasoning didn't make me care for them. Nothing about Emma really made me go, "Oh, I get her." Mostly I got a whole lot of disloyalty to someone that was supposed to be her mate all for the sake of not making waves.

The mild background peaks we have into the couple sort of gives us an idea that they were doing ok. Then this Liam dude comes out of the wood work to challenge him.

See, this my issue with most werewolf books. They make werewolves look like white trash and easy to turn on each other. The rest of the pack easily brainwashed by said disloyal member. I don't like that. I believe based on research done by wolves in the wild that this whole white trash concept flies in the face of how half human breeds would act.

Yes, I just got discovery channel on you all.

Then we are brought to the romance.

    I get this is novella.

Its hard to really sell a romance in 20k words. However, if you don't think you can sell it, then write a full length. Because you didn't sell this 'five seconds ago I hate you, now I'm humping you while you are dying of the werewolf equivalent to rabies.' Erm--nah that doesn't work.

I wasn't even quivering in lust at any of the sex scenes I just kinda read through it and went, "Oh, they humped, good for them."

The author as a whole is a strong author, I believe in this case it was just personal preference on my part in my inability to enjoy the story. I encourage those that enjoy shifter book to read this, it is unique and original.

This was my first introduction to this author and if her other stories are even close to this level she will quickly move to my autobuy list. This is a short novella, perfect for an introduction, and perfect for when you need a quick read.

What most impressed me when reading it was how much we learn about Emma and Kyle and their past history, how they feel about it and how it changed them. All in the space of only a few chapters. All while still facing the current threat to them and the pack left behind.

While I would love to read more about Emma and Kyle, I can also really say that I am satisfied with the conclusion and where I can see their story heading in the future. I really can not stress enough how wonderful it was to find all this is a novella. Getting a story this complete and detailed is something few can accomplish. I cant wait to pick up her series and see what happens in a full length novel.

Oh boy where to begin. This is the first book I've read by this author and it made me want to go get every book of hers I can get my hands on. I only wish it would have been longer. You have the strong female wolf that knows she needs help from the man she loves but it kills her to admit it, and to admit she still wants him. And the even stronger, and sexy, male that still loves her but just wants to move on with his life since he feels she betrayed him but can't help but protect not only her but deal with the disaster she brought his way. The sexual tension alone drove me insane and I loved the fact that both characters were so strong and willing to risk themselves. I absolutely wished it would have been longer more I want more of this strong sexy couple ;)

Bitten by Deceit is a short story, giving us a glimpse into the life of Emma Parker and Kyle Benton. Emma is in trouble. She’s been infected by a curse bite from her pack leader. His bite drives the victims crazy and put them under his control. Emma runs to the only person she knows outside the pack for help, but isn’t sure how her showing back up in Kyle’s life will be received.
Kyle hasn’t seen Emma in a year, since she decided to choose the pack over him. He’s still hurt and the wounds Emma left in his heart still raw. But he can’t fight the urge to help and protect her. Getting back at the pack leader who ran him away in the first place is a welcomed bonus.
This story has a lot of action and passion in a very short timeframe. I think it is well developed for a short story. It give you a good picture of what is going on at this snapshot of Kyle’s and Emma’s life. Are there things I would like to find out more about? Absolutely. But there is only so much you can tell in a limited word count. I hope Ms. Madison plans to expand this storyline.
Ms. Madison has a smooth writing style which pulls the reader into the plot. The characters are interesting and engaging. The sex scene have an emotion depth and brings the couple closer together. I would definitely recommend this book.

Shawtelle Madison is a new read for me, I haven't had the pleasure of reading nothing from this author, but as far as this novella shows, she'll be on my TBR list with every book she writes.
This is a novella but the reader doesn't come short handed in the end.
You can find all the right ingredients to satisfy your reading and find a very sexy wolf and a heroin that knows how to say I'm sorry.
From the start, my curiosity was driven, and page after page I discovered that sometimes choices have to be made, even if those choices
hurt you and someone else, higher priorities get in the way and life isn't perfect after all.
The chemistry between Kyle and Emma is still there and they have to overcome the sorrow of being split apart by the villain.
Trust is an element that takes priority in this story and as it progresses turns into something that never went away ... love.
There's the villains that come hand in hand with the payback and they appear just in the right time, with a balance to everything that is
going on, never out of place.
For a short story, this book has everything it should have, a beginning, middle and end, a pace that is set from the start always rising
until it reaches it's pick and an ending that is very satisfying.

    Short, Intense, Spicy

In Bitten By Deceit by Shawntelle Madison, Kyle Benton is a self-imposed lone Alpha wolf after having to leave his pack and the woman he loved behind. When Emma Parker, the woman Kyle loved comes barreling into his life again, sick and desperate for his help, how can he refuse? Emma has been attacked by the crazed leader of her pack who has been cursed by a black witch. Bitten and infected, she knows Kyle is the only one strong enough to defeat the evil Alpha leader and end the curse, but time is running out. When the showdown comes, who will be the last wolf standing? Will Emma be able to earn Kyle's trust and love again?

For a very short novella, the action never quit and the scenes were set well! Add in the spice of Emma and Kyle's desires for each other and you have a great short read!

Although Shawntelle Madison was unknown to me when I decided to give this story a try, this short story had great elements to it that made it a enjoyable read for me.

I liked that the heroine, Emma, was strong-minded and independent, but vulnerable enough to admit when she needed help. Kyle was a lovely character to read. He was strong, loving and understanding of Emma's situation even though he still felt hurt about what had taken place between them before.

I enjoyed the chemistry between the characters, the paranormal aspects of the story and the few action scenes that took place. The characters were well written, both presenting their emotions, strengths and vulnerabilities throughout the story, thus making their getting back together more believable to me.

Bitten by Deceit is a nice, sexy shifters' story with a hot little romance thrown in the mix. I will definitely be reading more from this author.

I received this short story through NetGalley in exchange of my honest opinion.

Bitten by Deceit was a short and sweet tale that packed a hefty punch. After being bitten by her alpha whose bite caused madness and mindless devotion, Emma is running for her life, trying to find Kyle Benton — the only man she knows could help her. A year earlier, Kyle was ejected from the pack after being defeated in a dominance challenge for the alpha position by the same alpha who is currently stalking Emma. Kyle is still very bitter at his pack for being kicked out and at Emma, who as the love of his life, refused to leave the pack with him. But, Emma is now seeking Kyle out for his strength to defeat the current alpha. When Kyle encounters Emma after a year, his anger towards her boils and he lets her know exactly how he feels about her and then promptly dismisses her without a backwards glance. Sadly, Emma has run out of time! The poison is coursing through her system and the crazed alpha is hot on her heels. Although he is still very angry, Kyle relents and offers to help Emma, albeit reluctantly. As Kyle and Emma prepare to make their last stand against the alpha and his posse of infected wolves they discover the unexpected… hope, strengthened by their enduring love for each other.

Bitten by Deceit is my foray into Ms. Madison’s universe and I really enjoyed this shifter tale. The story moved at a fast but engaging pace. The characters were interesting although a bit shallow because of the novella length of the story which left me with questions that I would have enjoyed knowing the answers to. Why did the pack alpha seek the dark magic which allowed him infect other wolves? Why was he so intent on Kyle and Emma? What happened after the smoke cleared? How did Emma’s sister Meg deal with the situation?; Did the pack welcome Kyle back? See! Lots of questions! :) Bitten by Deceit would make an excellent full-length novel because there were so many captivating, but underdeveloped, elements woven throughout the story.

This story has definitely piqued my interest about Ms. Madison’s other works, especially her Coveted series.

Bitten By Deceit is a novella written by Shawntelle Madison.  The story begins with Emma tracking down her ex-mate, Kyle.  Emma needs his help to survive the attack by her pack leader, Liam.  Emma was bitten during the attack and knows she will go insane as the poison from Liam's bite takes effect.  Kyle agrees to help her defeat Liam and hopes to seek his own revenge against his former pack leader for sabotaging their previous fight for pack leadership.  The story is packed with action and lots of steamy moments between Kyle and Emma.  Wow...the sparks and attraction between Emma and Kyle flame!   Bitten By Deciet captured my attention with the first page.  I finished the book in one sitting - it's that  fanatastic!  This novella hooked me.   I want more Kyle and Emma...please give me more Shawntelle, please!
